Streaking Stars

At first I though this was celestia way of co-ordinating
exactly where it is in in relation to the constellations,
but, I get all my stars streaking as bands across space to infinity.
although if I zoom on a star that is streaking they seem to fade away.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
