Just curious to know if anyone else is having my problems with
the asteroid.cms and roughsphere.cms files in the latest 1.6.0.
When any asteroid (or minor moon) is displayed using one of the
CMS models, it looks as if the cms is being rendered twice. The
rendered asteroids are displayed with strange bumps on the top
and the bottom of the objects. Looks as if the rendering is
combining two versions of the cms (one laterally and one vertically.)
Is anyone else having this problems? I also tried to use a 3ds model to render
asteroids and minor moons, but still got the same effect.
Sorry, but that's the best I can explain it. Have a look at your Telesto
model in the Solar System, and see what you get.
Thanks, Brain-Dead

Re: CMS problems?
Can you name another example?
Telesto uses a tri-axial elipsoid (new feature in v1.6.0), not a CMS model.
*ding* (sound of idea lightbulb flashing) It sounds like you have more than one file defining moons. Did you install 1.6.0 on top of a previous installation? That can't work.
You could earch for whatever SSC file defines Telesto with a CMS model and delete it, perhaps, but I'd start by renaming the current Celestia directory something else and then install Celestia v1.6.0 in an entirely new directory.
I looked at the moons Neso and Nix and both looked OK to me. They both use CMS models.

Have a look at my original post Selden... I added a picture.selden wrote:Can you name an example?

This is what I'm seeing on every asteroid and/or minor moon using the asteroid.cms file.
Mayhap something is haywire in my system. I suppose I could try to re-install again. (groan.)
Thanks, Brain-Dead

Bob,
I realized what must be your problem and updated my post while you were reading my old version. Sorry.

Thanks for the info, Selden.
Just FYI though, I *did* uninstall the old version prior to installing the new
version. Apparently I had something left over though.
I'll just delete everything this time and start again.
Many thanks for your help.
Take care, Brain-Dead

Re: CMS problems?
Selden,
Heeded your excellent advice and got rid of the problem.
I had two minormoons.ssc files, and two numberedmoons.ssc files.
Just deleted the ones I had copied over from my last extras folder.
Many thanks for your help. That was a lesson well-learned hopefully.

Re: CMS problems?
Bob,
You're quite welcome.
The decision was made to make extras be used for only user addons, so the ssc files which had been in there were "promoted" to the data directory.
Another minor point of confusion is that many(*) of the spacecraft were moved out of Celestia's data and model directories and into a new directory named extras-standard. Although I don't think it's been stated explicitly, user addons shouldn't be put in extras-standard.
