sizing of earth and moon, or the distance of their orbit...

if you get to within 3 meters of the earths surface and look at the moon it is much too small in the sky.. alternatively if you go to the surface of the moon and look at the earth it is grossly undersized. someone please take a look at this.

Strange. It's precisely right on my system.
Remember: the moon is just slightly more than a half of a degree across.
Celestia is showing you a 45 degree field of view in its window. That window usually is a lot less than 45 degrees of your personal field of view.
1/2 of a degree is about 1% of the width of Celestia's window. That's tiny.
One way to demonstrate that it's right is to change the field of view to be only 30 arc minutes. Lo and behold: the moon fills the window.
I hope this clarifies things a little.
