In Celestia 1.6.0 RC1, when I'm on the surface of a planet with an OpenGL 2.0 atmosphere, the atmosphere disappears in certain zooms when looking at a particular direction above the horizon, when I'm located in a particular altitude above the ground.
Here's a link:

Just raise or lower the direction you are looking, and the atmosphere displays again.
