Earth, Moon are bright red circles.

Post #1by PontusReed » 13.03.2009, 23:39

Hi all. I just downloaded Celestia, but the earth and moon (and who knows what else) are bright red three-dimensional circles. Nothing else. Just red.

I tried a search, but it was unsuccessful. What am I doing wrong?

Red objects mean that the OpenGL vertex shader compiler returned an error when it tried to draw the object. That means that your computer's graphics drivers are out of date. You need to install the most recent graphics drivers. They should be available for free for downloading from the Web site of the manufacturer of the graphics hardware (not from Microsoft).

In the meantime, you can try typing a Ctrl-V while Celestia is running. That will step through the Render paths that Celestia can use. Some of them should draw the planets reasonably well, although you won't see all of the possible eye-candy.
