Display Problem with Jupiter

I've compiled the latest SVN release from Celestia. After startup it say that I'm dealing with version 1.6.0
However when I browse to Jupiter, it shows weird rotating "stains" on the surface of this planet and now rings around the planet are visible too. (normally I use a texture for this)
Before version 1.6.0 it's recommended not to use the particle-files. It seems that those has been compiled in this version.
Is it possible that this phenomena on the surface of Jupiter is related to those particle files?

It would be good to get more info, like your OS, the brand of your graphics card and driver version, the SVN revision and possibly a screendump of the effect.

Anyway, I compile from SVN almost daily both under Windows and Linux. My last SVN revision was 4599 (as of yesterday) and everything looks very satisfactory as usual in both operating systems. Notably Jupiter is fine.

Today we have revision 4600, yet the changes relative to r4599 only concern MAC OS.

Make sure that you always use the latest graphics drivers.

PS: let me suppose you're not seing rings like this one near Jupiter ;-) ?

Anyway, these rings are for testing purposes and should not be in SVN, albeit looking pretty at times. Like this one:

I use as OS WinXP sp2 with a nVidia FX5200 an the driver version for it is 6.14.11.7519
The SVN build is also from yesterday: 4599. The source code is compiled with Visual Studio 2005.

Another question: how to get a larger format of picture in this post (original size is 1266x792)

That faint ring is definitely from a Jupiter add-on! Are you sure that you don't have a downloaded add-on lurking in your 'extras' directory?? This ring is definitely NOT part of the official Celestia distribution! Your card is pretty old. You should always use the LATEST driver version for your card, since Celestia represents a BIG OpenGL challenge for every driver.

Did you click on your attached image already? Then you get it in natural size...

Fridger, John,

Concerning the ring around Jupiter I'm not sure about it. I'm used to define this ring in the solarsys.ssc file. I'll do that only then when the compiled Celestia version runs fine. That wasn't the case yet with the latest build. The suggestion of Fridger might be true; so maybe, another ring has been defined in one of the Add-On's. I'll check this out.

Also I've updated the OS with Win-SP3 as John suggested. Unfortunatly with the same result.

I know, the graphic card is old but still works fine. The driver version is from that winxp_175.19_whql package.
In windows it will be displayed as being version 6.14.11.7519.

Yes Fridger, your guess was right; The problem has been found in one of the Add-on's. In the past I've done some experiments and afterward cleaned up files in the "extra" directory. One ssc-file is left behind with some data related to Jupiter. With this, Jupiter has been defined twice. It seems that this wasn't a problem with previous versions of Celestia. But with the latest one it looks like it does. Anyway I've removed the troublesome file from the directory and everything works fine again.

Thanks for you help

You too John, for paying attention to this problem.
