New machine - new install - strange distances on bookmarks

Hi all,

I recenty got a new machine (AMD64 running 32bit Slackware 12.1), and installed 1.5.1 again (fresh source code). All works very well, but if I run the bookmarked demos, I am viewing from around several AU away and thus just sit there looking into space...

A good example is the 'mars fly-by' - by the time I rapidly mouse wheel to get Mars in sight, the demo has flown past.

This happens with all the bookmarked demos. To test, I downloaded a few tours and they all work great. The start-up demo works fine too.

Any ideas what is going on here?

Thanks,

Nick

Nick,

You probably are using URLs designed for Celestia v1.4. The position of the Sun and thus the positions of all the planets changed in v1.5, breaking all previous URLs. :(

OK, but this was from a NEW download of the source 1.5.1 and build/install...

Nick,

I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say.

Many of the URLs currently still available were designed for use with Celestia v1.4.1, *not* with Celestia v1.5.1. If you use one of those old URLs, it can't work with your fresh, new install.

Please provide an example of a script/url that you're using which is not working properly for your new install.

Well, basically I build with KDE environment. So I get a toolbar with default 'bookmarks' - Follow Earth, Moon Liberation etc. None of them work.

'Mars Fly By' is a good example that puts me 206.42eu away.

EDIT: Ok, it's the data in the file 'src/celestia/kde/data/bookmarks.xml' that is out of date for 1.5.1

OK, I fixed up one for them - 'Moon Libration From Earth'

The old bookmark:

<bookmark icon="favicons/celestia_20021215170159036" href="cel://PhaseLock/Sol%3AEarth/Sol%3AEarth%3AMoon/2004-05-29T11%3A23%3A46.24?x=yqIWPagG2MO3DA&amp;y=EQYCseMOLQ&amp;z=sX69wCu2LOQO&amp;ow=0.659796&amp;ox=-0.215912&amp;oy=-0.698286&amp;oz=-0.174491&amp;select=Sol:Earth&amp;fov=0.903882&amp;ts=100000.000000&amp;rf=6035&amp;lm=0" >
<title>Moon Libration from Earth</title>
</bookmark>

The new one fixed-up:

<bookmark icon="favicons/celestia_20080818093405954" href="cel://phaselock/Sol%3AEarth%3AMoon/Sol%3AEarth/2008-08-18T22%3A53%3A55.18276?x=lNekdgF20lEN&amp;y=ysMRW4ndWg&amp;z=5akTjCIYYtMI&amp;ow=-0.652238&amp;ox=0.011660&amp;oy=-0.757696&amp;oz=0.018590&amp;fov=37.254509&amp;ts=100000.000000&amp;ltd=0&amp;p=0&amp;rf=2889623&amp;lm=0&amp;ver=2" >

Post deleted. For some reason the forum will not allow me to attach a *.xml or a *.txt file.

Nick,

You can put your files in a Zip archive and upload that.
