Mars Error in 1.2.2

Hello Chris,

first of all thank you very much for this fantastic program. It is a great tool to show my daughters (8 and 11 years old) where we live and how small the Earth is compared to the rest of the universe ... but also a great game for myself, wandering around in space. I just downloaded the 1.2.2 version and find especially the surface of the Earth and Moon very detailed and great looking. I wanted to move over to Mars and: Error. I tried to access the Mars by various ways but whenever I come close to it the same error happens again (there must be an English expression for this error, in German it is called "Allgemeine Schutzverletzung", its one of those little boxes that appear and only give you the option to get more deteils or to exit the program ... and I know from several programmers that those details are not really helpful ...).

Best regards

Greetings,

"Allgemeine Schutzverletzung". I think that's German for "General Protection Fault" in Windows. It is more frequent in the older Windows systems, Win 95, and Win 98.

As your programming friends say, it will likely not help you or Chris tell what went wrong. More likely to help is knowing whether your PC's Windows version and hardware specs are enough for Celestia. This might mean upgrading...

But first, eliminate the fact that new texture maps being loaded on approaching another planet isn't overloading memory. Is it always *only* with Mars you have this problem? Have you got close to Jupiter with no "Allgemeine Schutzverletzung", for example?

Regs.,

Spiff.

Do you have a Voodoo3? If so, I found and corrected this bug in 1.2.3 (which is available from the download page.) f you don't feel like grabbing the whole package again, you can just get new Mars and Pluto textures here:

http://www.celestiaproject.net/celestia/files/mars.jpg
http://www.celestiaproject.net/celestia/files/pluto.jpg

Put these texture files in c:\program files\celestia\textures\medres
(c:\program files\ may be different depending on where you installed Celestia.)

Hello Chris, hello Spaceman,

thanks very much for the information, yes, indeed its a Voodoo card. I have downloaded the 1.2.3 version and can now go on Mars-exploring missions again!
