I have recently installed Celestia and have familiarized myself with most of it's features. Everything seems to be working fine and I am impressed with the simulations. The only glitch is when observing Earth--the planet's rotation appears very jerky. Also, when I change camera orientations, the transition from one viewing angle to another is also quite jerky, with a noticeably delayed response from my mouse or keypad controls. I don't experience this problem when viewing the other planets/asteroids. When veiwing other bodies, their rotation is very smooth, and camera controls are very responsive. The problem only seems to be with the Earth simulation. The problem does subside, however, when I zoom away from the Earth and view it from a greater distance. When I do this, the planet's rotation is much smoother, but at that point the Earth is only the size of a large marble. I am using WindowsXP and all my drivers are current. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, any suggestions?

This sounds like a performance issue. Jerkiness is an indication of a low frame rate, which happens when Celestia has to calculate "too much" for each frame that it draws.

To see how fast Celestia can draw frames, type an "accent grave" (`). It's usually on the same key with the tilde (~). That'll show Celestia's current frames per second in the lower left corner of the window. You'll have to wait a few seconds for that number to be valid.
