Pre 4 bug: far future moon orbit collides with earth

Several bugs become apparent if one runs Celestia into the far future.

One is that the earth's cloud texture is rendered as bands around the planet like those on gas giants. Maybe Celestia is trying to tell us something? :)

Also, the orbital fix isn't perfect. The moon's orbit in pre4 becomes extremely eccentric with one end inside the earth and the moon's motion istill seems to be somewhat discontinuous. It becomes apparent, too, that Celestia isn't designed to handle interpenetrating objects.

Cloud, orbital and collision problems are shown at this "favorites" location:

the moon orbit bug has been well known and there have been many posts before about this. i think chris is working on it.

Mike,

I reported it again because the feature list that came with pre4 said it was fixed. It is a lot better than it was. Instead of the moon's orbit being displayed as lots of jagged lines pointing in all directions, it's now a very tight oval. I wanted to make sure Chris was aware that it's not completely resolved yet.

The orbit looks like a normal circle initially. However, if you zoom out so it shrinks down to invisibility, when you zoom in again, it's essentially a straight line with the moon travelling back and forth along it.
