Star Distances

Post #1by Tharghana » 04.01.2008, 17:53

I am working on a Add-on, for this add-on I need to be able to put things out the star distence barrier, other wise they are just invislbe. Can you tell if there is a way to disable/change the distence limiations?

Sorry, there's no way around the ~16KLY distance limitation for positioning stars and their planets until Celestia's source code is upgraded. The precision of the 128bit arithmetic that it uses simply isn't good enough. The current hope is that a future major revision of Celestia will support the use of multiple coordinate systems so that distant stars and planets will be positioned relative to the closest such origin.

However, you might consider defining your objects as DSC Nebula objects. They can be placed at arbitrary distances, although they won't move.

Yes: that's what I was trying to say when I wrote

Please read the documentation about DSC files and Mesh declarations. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/DSC_File

Runar,

at least you deserve this big size ;-) . Have a look at this Halo Universe...I would vote for a much much smaller 'monster'...

Yeah, first time I saw that I was immediately given a freightening view into the future, of seeing that everywhere, along with being rather large.

Tharghana,
No offense, but it's rather obnoxiously large, and it could be replaced with something more productive, perhaps ... your computer specs?
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
