I kept getting this too, especially when zooming in on a planet.
I was probably expecting a lot for a business oriented laptop (Lenovo 3000N100 with Intel graphic chip) but I did solve it; I hope it my be of some help to others.
In my case, under OpenGL properties, I set Driver Memory Footprint to LOW. That cured the crashes, but the video ain't quite so good!

Windows has encountered a problem.....(XP)
I have at least one crash that can simply be attributed to a bug in the Celestia source code. Explanation in the 3rd post of the this thread.
