venus transit June 8 2004

June 8 2004, there will be a spectacular Venus transit across the sun starting UT ~5:30 and ending ~UT 11:30. Question: How can I make it visible in Celestia? How does one select the line of sight (earth -> sun)?

Try this:

Select the earth with the '3' key and use 'G' to go there. Use 'Y' to sync orbit with the earth. Use the mouse with the control key down to rotate the earth until your observing location is directly beneath you. Then use the 'Home' key to approach the earth until you reach the surface. Finally, select the sun using the 'H' key and use 'C' to center it or 'T' to track it.

Did you succeed with the steps you described? I did not, although this is clearly the way to go. Is Celestia perhaps not accurate enough?
