Celestia and the new detonator WHQL(40.72)

With this new driver, all the program opengl become very dark. It would be good, if there is a function gama in celestia-> i don't want to choose between celestia and the driver...
Thanks.

I don't have that problem at all. I have been using the D4 drivers since the first release. If anything I think I am seeing a slight increase in gamma. I find myself turning the brightness on my monitor down as a quick fix. One must remember that the drivers are made for all of the NVidaia cards. Some cards might have an inherent gamma problem that you never noticed before. As an installer/ system builder I have installed many NVidia cards and I can say that the same make of cards setup on similar if not identicle systems, meaning vid cards, other hardware and monitor you will see a slight diference in cards and there display. Besides there is a gama ajustment in the driver control panel in display properties. Thats why its there. So if you think your system is to dark adjust the gama there or simply turm the brightness up on your monitor. It has the same efect as turning up the gamma There is also the posibility your monitors phosphers are getting a little burnt in. It is normal for a monitor to go darker over time. Even a new monitor will be very bright and crisp when new and start to fade within the first few weeks until it is fully burnt in. Then it normaly calms down to a gradual fading over years of use. But sometimes they can burn out prematurly. Again every piece of equipment in your system has its own failure rate.
The other thing to do is make sure Windows is seeing what brand your monitor is. This is important so that it is using the proper color profile for your monitor. Some monitors won't have color profiles but most do. If windows says you are using a generice plug and play monitor consider changing the setting so it says its the brand of monitor you are using. If its not in the built in list at least choose a monitor from the same manufacturer that is similar to yours. If you still are not happy with the efects the new drivers are giving you, you have the option to go back and install the ones you like better. There is nothing that states you have to use such and such driver version unless Chris says that Celestia will now only work with a said version. Just as anything else in life its your free choice to do with your system as you see fit. I hope this helps you out and I wish you luck on figuring the best course of action for you. :D

A lot(everybody?) of people have this problem with opengl(there isn't this problem with program which use directx).
Try quake with detonator>40 and detonator<30 and you'll see the difference. With celestia the galaxi are very dark.
My monitor haven't any problem(mitsubishi diamond pro 920). And the gama in the detonator is for every time, not only for program which use opengl, then i can't adjust gama.

Well I have an adendum to my previuos post. OpenGL programs are fine but I am seeing a severe darkening in any app that plays video files of any kind. I guess I am having to go back to the previous build of drivers as well.
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

I got it working with winME by tweaking the OpenGL settings under the NVidia tab...
