NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Frame rate very poor on NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200.
What frame rate are you getting showing what objects?
Please describe your system configuration in detail.
Graphics performance is affected by both CPU and graphics card. Insufficient main memory will cause large textures to be unusably slow, too.
A 5200 is by no means a very fast graphics card, although that's what I'm using on this system. I'm getting what I consider reasonable performance, too: usually more than 15 fps.
(type a ~ to see Celestia's frame rate in the lower left corner of its window.)
System configuration:
512MB 2.4GHz P4, WinXP Pro SP2
128MB FX5200, ForceWare v91.31
1600x1200, 60Hz
Celestia v1.4.1final

It worked well when I had an Intel(R) 82845 Graphics Controller.
Could you copy and paste the contents of the 'OpenGL Info' dialog found under the Help menu? I think that you might be using the Microsoft software OpenGL renderer. If that's the case, you need to go to nvidia.com and download graphics drivers.

You might try looking to see if hardware acceleration is enabled on your system. The driver version you show is Microsoft's software OpenGL library, which is very, very slow. It's what's used if hardware acceleration is disabled for some reason.
Microsoft includes an minimal Nvidia driver with XP; I don't know about other versions of Windows. You didn't say which you have.
Under XP, you can adjust hardware acceleration by opening the Display Properties menu:
Right-Mouse-Button click anywhere on the backdrop of your screen.
In the popup menu, select the Properties entry at the bottom.
In the "Display Properties" popup window, select the "Settings Tab" (at top right)
In that window, select the "Advanced" button (at bottom right)
In the new popup window, select the tab
"General"
Click on the round button "Apply the new display settings without restarting" unless it's already set.
Click on the "Apply" button at the bottom right.
Select the tab at upper right labelled "Troubleshoot"
In the new window, there should be a "Hardware acceleration" slider. Drag it all the way to the right, to the "Full" position.
Then click on all the OK buttons to close the windows.
If the slider is greyed out or missing, then no Nvidia drivers are loaded.
Nvidia provides better drivers than Microsoft does. They're available at
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
In the first box select "Graphics Driver"
In the second box select "Geforce and TNT"
In the third box select your operating system.
Then click on Go.
and follow subsequent instructions.
