"Go to object", makes everything disapear

hello everyone
i've just installed celestia, i am running linux "suse10" nvidia card fx5200, latest driver installed
when i go to objects through "go to objects" -sometimes- the universe turns blank but i see from the values that i am at earth. i've to restart celestia to work again
also, why linux version lacks some features? like capturing video, bookmarks
that what i noticed till now, so is there any lacks in linux version? and will it be updated? both v1.4.1 so howcome!

and thanks for the developers for creating amazing app for free

It's the problem of Suse if they don't offer the /current/ version of Celestia. I can highly recommend to download the sources of Celestia 1.4.1 and to compile them yourself.

As to your "blackening Universe": Have you thought about the following possibility. If the Earth happens to show you it's dark side and you hit Goto then the dark side of the Earth will fill the whole screen, the univers "looks black" and still the Earth is selected...

The Linux-KDE version is even /ahead/ of the Windows version in some respects. The KDE version has a fancy bookmark toolbar with standard icons that the Windows does not have. There are further neat features. But video is not implemented because of the complex situation concerning video under Linux.

Anyway you should not use a Celestia version that is 1 1/2 years old (1.3.2 from Suse 10)

i used KDE when i installed, gnome is installed but i dont use it

however i figured that i can hit enter, name an object and G to to it, it wotks fine this way, atleast till now

I checked that the (full) Suse 10 offers Celestia 1.3.2 . But OpenSource Suse 10 DVD for download does not.
You did not specify which Suse 10 you got. Be more precise, if possible.

Apparently you installed the Celestia-gtk version which indeed does not have bookmarks yet (coming very soon). When talking about Suse Linux one naturally thinks of KDE! Celestia-KDE does have a beautiful bookmark facility. Just compile with --with-kde in ./configure and you get your bookmarks.

As a developer I am using both Celestia-KDE 1.4.1 and Celestia-gtk and I never observed any "dark universe" problem as you described. So you will have to get your installation right, somehow. I am also using SusE Linux.

That was my suspicion since you said Celestia was not part of the suse10 distribution.

No idea, but this is gtk/gnome stuff so my bet is that it is not for KDE.

This just means you did not inform yourself well before trying. No success without hard work ;-)

No idea about this stuff. Why should I ever use it...?
