Celestia has been ported to a Cave (a 3D immersive environment) using Glass.

Maybe I should have placed my bug report here - but it is a bit long. See "3ds models missing when compiling x86-64/kde from source" posted under bugs on Tue Apr 18, 2006 9:01 pm.

David

Some Addons are not working.
I unzip cham??s black holes to extras and altough,the name shows off,the textures don??t.I selected,for example,Black Pit,and when I get there,only empty space appears.
The black hole in 16 Cygni B is also not been shown.
MRO and Venus Express are in extras and the probes aren??t shown off.
Unzipping UB313 to Extras also didn??t work.I have to manually change the outersys.ssc and put the tenthplanet.jpg in textures>medres
I am using Celestia 1.4.1 final.I have a 6600 GT PCI-E 128 MB,driver Nvidia 81.84 and Windows XP SP2.

Daniel,

Posting here about bugs in Addons does no good. You have to contact their authors personally. If you can't persuade the author of an Addon to update it, then you have to be responsible for making it work on your system.

The Addon for UB313, for example, was created before that body was added to Celestia. Now that Celestia v1.4.1 includes its own definition for UB313, there is a conflict. You have to decide how to handle that.

Sorry.

Checked with WinXP SP2 and Mac OS X 10.4.7:

The unit of the distance between current viewpoint and an object varies m-km-au-ly-kpc-Mpc, but "ly" is not valid in the latest CVS code (Sep. 7, 2006). So too large "au" number is shown for stars. :(
Maybe since astro.cpp and some other related files are changed...

The value of km/ly has been changed by Chris from 9466411842000.000 to 9460730472580.8. I don't know what assumptions have been made in calculating that value but it appears to be based on the IAU definition of 1 year = 365.25 days.

I just checked in a fix for the bug. The problem wasn't the value of the km/ly constant. I'd managed to completely break the AUtoLightYears function when I converted it to a templatized version.

Thank you for the fast response to this very much. :D
It worked correctly as before.

When I "Follow Earth" with Spacecraft labels on, I see the ISS or Hubble cross the globe, then after some time they are hidden behind it. So far, so good. It's just the label that keeps orbiting earth... Is that by design? It happens in 1.4.1 and 1.5.0, and as far as I see with spacecraft labels only. Moon label is correctly hidden by the globe.
This effect seems to depend on the distance: when I keep zooming in and out with the wheel, the labels of the hidden spacecraft appear and vanish randomly.
Might it be an effect of my FX5200?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm running WinXP SP2

There's no need to post the same question in different places.

Star Browser Bug

Post #113by MrZeta » 27.10.2006, 02:41

Not really a bug but a missed implementation.

All the file headers resort except 'starname' !

For my use, this program is a lifesaver ! Check out my other programming request !

The orbits of the moons seem to disappear at times in Celestia 1.5.0:

If you have the "numberedmoons.ssc" file, then your Jupiter and Saturn have a swarm of moon orbits around them. Go to either planet, and align the planet to where it occults the sun. Now move away from the planet. You'll find that the orbits disappear prematurely. The closer you are to the planet, the more precise your occultation must be. Likewise at farther distances, your planet doesn't have to be "dead on" the sun, for the effect to be apparent.
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

This is really weird, because the official 1.4.1 that I compiled is not supposed to call gleDrawArraysOrElements_VBO_Exec in LODSphereMesh. I'll have to do some asking around.

Where did you get your Celestia build? Did you get the source files from CVS and compile it yourself? If so, on what date did you sync with CVS?

The best thing to do here might be to wait and see if this is solved in the upcoming official 1.5.0 prerelease version.

Saturn??s Runar strange specularity

Post #118by danielj » 26.12.2006, 00:48

Using the addon "Exploring Saturn-Vol 1" from Runar Thorvald, the following bug happened:
http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... ikemb0.jpg
Look that under Open GL 2.0,the Saturn??s atmosphere specular looks like some kind of computer circuit. This don??t happened in Celestia 1.4.1 final and I will check in Celestia 1.5.0 pre 2...
Anyway,I know that it??s clear that this addon was designed to the Celestia 1.4.1 and 1.4.2,but it appears that there are problems with specular maps under Celestia 1.5.0 pre!

General strange specularity

Post #120by danielj » 26.12.2006, 01:44

Look,the specularity problem on Earth:
http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... lempz1.jpg

For Blue Marble, the best results I can get is with the very simple EarthSpecular8k.dds.Only when I use this map,the rivers and lakes are "specularized".It appears that Celestia 1.5.0 pre has serious problems with VT specular maps...
Please realize that I??m not using 64k BMNG,but the "old" 32k Blue Marble. This is because of storage problems. My C partition is hosting the Celestia 1.5.0 pre and it??s smaller than partition D.
