Hi,
I'm afraid that the box for nebulae rendering in rendering options works the wrong way : nebulae are displayed when box is unchecked.
Otherwise, go to set time menu, double click on the month, then doubleclick on the minutes, on the month again and try to change it : no way.

The nebula box in rendering option behaves very weirdly.
On my side, it doesn't change anything, but removing some galaxies addons. (I was wondering what was the purpose of this option, until I read it here).
And reporting on my board, another user said the selection is not remembered after closing the rendering option (let's say, if the box is checked, opening again option will show it unchecked, even if it displays nebulas now).

I see the same symptom as brokfn.
Checking the Nebulae box turns off Nebula display. It should turn it on. Clearing the checkbox turns them on.
Celestia has no problems remembering the state of the display on my system, though. If Nebulae are being shown when Celestia exits, they're shown when Celestia starts up again. If they aren't being shown, then they don't get shown when Celestia is restarted. Only the checkbox is reversed.

Don't forget that colorful "galaxy" Addons actually are defined as Nebula Mesh objects.
Look in their .DSC catalog file to verify this.

I cannot see any problem with switching nebulae on|off under Celestia-kde and Celestia-gnome, both being the very latest CVS level. I checked it with two different Nebula add-ons: M42 and M1. The on|off switching works both correctly via menue and via "^" key.
So it must be an issue of the Windows GUI. Chris? I did not touch it after releasing FT1.2

Yes, it was a problem with the Windows GUI. The state of the nebulae checkbox was getting synched with the state of the ShowNebulae render flag when the dialog was activated.
I committed to CVS fixes for both the Windows nebulae checkbox and set time bugs. I think that these are important enough that I should make another package for 1.4.0 final rather than just renaming 1.4.0pre8.
