Thanks Chris. I mentioned it because 1.3.1 does not display some of the errors described for 1.3.2pre8 in this thread, from the tie fighter to the immense space station errors. It does seem that some change has occurred in the latest pre-release.
jherschmann, in your screenshot of the immense station, it looks like it is floating in an asteroid field or a very rocky ring (those floating rocks around it). I have been working on the Primitive Earth add-on and I am anxious to find/develop a ring that actually has some imbedded rocks in it. Is that what I'm seeing in your screenshots? If so, where can I get that ring with its rocks, and the immense space station add-ons?

I agree that there have always been some limitations with Celestia but I think Frank is right in saying that something must have changed because I - and I believe other folks as well - found those rendering errors in many other models, too. And they definitely were not there in earlier versions of Celestia!
So, I hope you'll find the time to look into that soon, Chris
Frank,
as for the screenshot of the Immense Space Station, it is indeed floating in an asteroid field giving the impresionof a very rocky ring.
I created those rocks with the great Venus Ring Generator. I used an asteroid that is positioned near the Immense Space Station as center and generated 500 asteroids around it. So when you look at the ring from near the Space Station it gives the impression of a rocky ring.
This it what the rocky ring really looks like (I have turned on the labels so it is easier to recognize the individual asteroids)!
I actually tried different things like superimposing an asteroid ring on the planet ring but you would have to use far more asteroids to get the same effect. And obviously that would slow down Celestia and use more resources. So I think that is pretty good solution that does the job!
As for the Immense Space Station. I'm happy to share it but to be honest I think you should go for the version from Jestr which I have download just two or three days ago. His version is far superior to mine. As always he has done an outstanding job in converting the model for use in Celestia! If you still want to have my version just let me know. But I will share all of the add-ons that I have created or I am working on soon anyway as I have I have finally started working on my own Celestia Web Site!
Stay tuned!
Needless to say that Celestia is just awesome! Keep up the good work Chris!

I don't think that this bug is new in 1.3.2pre8--this limitation has always been present in Celestia.

Dear Joachim:
I am completely unaware of the Venus Ring Generator add-on. A search of the forum found a reference from 2002 but the download link no longer works. Do you know where I can get the add-on, or could you post it on a website for download? Alternatively, if you e-mail it to me, I will post it on my site.

Hi Frank,
I'm sending you the Venus Generator Add-On directly as it will take some more time till I can put it on my site. I guess you can put it on your site in the meanwhile and make it available to others again as the original download location seems to be unavailable. Fortunately I have built a repository of all the stuff I have ever downloaded for Celestia. When I find some more time I will look through it and post other add-ons that might not be available any more...
