UnInstaller Icon in XP
Problem: Celestia shows "recycle" uninstaller icon instead of "celestia"
System: 512MB AMD AthlonXP 1800+, Windows XP Pro Eng, fully patched
Graphics: VIA/S3 KM266, Driver 6.14, OpenGL v(Unkown-how to check?)
Program: Celestia v1.3.1
In Windows XP, in Add/Remove programs I see "recycle" icon, and it's OK if I had only Celestia with this icon, but I have dozens of apps with that icon...
I would like to see "celestia saturn" icon there in next version.

Apparently your system's database of icon usage has been trashed.
I'm not an expert in this, and it looks like there are many things that could cause this type of problem. However, I'd suggest switching to a different desktop theme (as provided with XP) to see if that helps, since that should change all of the default icons.

Selden,
What icon does the file "unins000.exe" display in your root Celestia directory? Mine shows the recycle bin, and always has.

I should also probably add that I think the Trash Can icon is quite accurate for an UNinstall icon. Just my 2 cents.

Don,
What Fenix is saying though, is that he's seeing the Recycle Bin icon
in his control panel under the Add/Remove programs header where
Celestia is listed. This should NOT be the case. Mine shows the
Celestia Icon and always has.
Just FYI.
Take care, Bob

In Celestia versions *prior* to 1.3.2, there is an outside chance that the Windows icon cache was not being properly refreshed after Celestia was installed. This *has* been fixed in the Inno Setup script for 1.3.2.

Go to this page, Fenix...http://shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4664
By the way, this is the THIRD time I've answered this question on the forum.
Is there any chance we could get the Pre-Release posts placed in a sticky or something
so that new users (and others) could find the things more easily?
Just a thought for you Selden, Don, Chris?
Thanks, Bob
Maybe Selden could ADD the new spacesim.net link to Q/A3 of the Preliminary User's FAQ, which IS a "sticky"?

1) The best is to put the dev version in the download section.
and tell about it with warnings.
2) I have downloaded 1.3.2pre7, and the installer thinks it's pre6, and in "about" i see it as 1.3.1. he he.
3) UnInstall icon problem was NOT fixed, in what I downloaded. be it 1.3.1, 1.3.2pre6, or 1.3.2pre7.

Well spotted, but I think the uninstaller icon issue really isn't that important. If it were me I wouldn't bother. Same for maintaining the about box between pre releases, its a waste of time.
As a developer this kind of nit-picking really annoys me, and I'm sure it would annoy other developers as well.
Marc.

I agree with you here, its unfortunate that spacesim.net does not allow directory browsing like shatters.net.. then it would just be a matter of bookmarking the prereleases directory.

Well, maybe I should explain myself here...
The last three times I pointed someone to the appropriate link on the forum,
I first had to go do a search in order to find out where it was myself. You might
think that I'd write it down next time wouldn't you?
At any rate, it just seemed that it would be a LOT easier for everyone to find
one of these links if they could be placed in a central depository. No criticism
from me about how it's done now... I just thought that - again - it might be easier
for everyone.
Take care, Bob
