A Different Ring Atmosphere Problem!

Post #1by Don. Edwards » 16.03.2004, 04:37

While donig some close in screen caps of my upcoming HD28185 system I have found a glitch that I was pretty sure had been fixed in the past.
The problem is then viewing a ringed planet with the rings in the frame the rings look as though they are going under the atmosphere instead of over the top. Or it looks like they intersecting the atmosphere.
Here is a shot that shows what I am talking about.

I am not sure if anyone has posted on this recently. It can also be seen at a distance as well.

Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

You sure that's not just an optical illusion? Didn't Chris make the rings more opaque in this version? It could be that this increased opacity means that the rings stand out more if viewed through an atmosphere, which makes you think that the atmosphere isn't affecting the view through to the rings. If you look closely at that picture you posted, you can see the atmosphere is dimly visible between the camera and the rings where it intersects the planet.

(did I explain that clearly??)

Unfortunatly that picture doesn't really bring home the visual problem. This is with the the latest pre5 build not the newer pre6. I will load pre6 and take a few more shots at different angles to show how bad it can look. Trust me it can look very ugly. This is one of the reasons I dropped my nightside lightning project. With a cloud layer on the ringed planet the rings cut in even more deeply. 8O
