Despite what people are saying, and the solutions they are suggesting, I don't have any "Sis 630/730". I have a Geforce with he latest drivers and the fonts with the latest version of Celestia are just buggy. It's not OUR systems. It's the damn program. Fonts are fonts. I don't think I need to do any thing fancy with my setup to have clear fonts for god's sake. Well written programs don't have font problems.
That rant being said. I love Celestia, and the programmer of said software. It is just very frustrating 'cause I dig it so much. Just release a bug patch before I turn into an alcoholic. Okay????

But you must be aware of the fact that more than a hundred people here in the forum probably also use GeForce cards without experiencing font problems whatsoever. I do also have a GeForce 2 GTS without the slightest problems. Neither in Linux nor in Windows.
As far as I can remember you are the first GeForce owner complaining about font display.
But I am sure you are aware of this and have a good answer...
Did you try to switch to different fonts in celestia.cfg?

Can you post a screenshot showing the problem? Or send it to me at claurel@shatters.net if you prefer . . . I'm very surprised that you're seeing a problem on a GeForce card since that's what I use on all my development machines, but I will look into the issue.

The fonts will look pretty poo with Fullscreen anti-aliasing set at 2x.
Right click on desktop and go to display properties. Find the additional tab for your GeForce card (I would give more precise instructions but I'm away from my GeForce computer at home) and somewhere there is something like an 'Additional Properties' button. In the dialog box that it brings up is an Anti-Aliasing section. Either set anti-aliasing to be controlled by the application, or try setting it to 4x. The former setting will stop Celestia anti-aliasing it's fonts, whereas the latter setting will make it do it properly. The latter setting also means the planets and particularly the spacecraft look magnificent, but be prepared for a major performance hit :O)
Can anyone explain what 2x and 4x anti-aliasing are? Surely it can't do 4 passes of the whole screen :O[]

:(
The anonymous poster was right. Turning of the anti-aliasing solved my problem completely. My bad. Sorry.
However, why does this occur?

Getting pixel-accurate text in OpenGL can be tricky . . . You need to be very careful about positioning so that there's a one to one correspondence between pixels and texels. With antialiasing, you have to more careful still about sampling--more careful than I've been, up to this point. Something for me to investigate--I'm not sure what the /right/ technique is for rendering text when FSAA is turned on.

Garbled text
Hi,
I have the newest GeForce Detonators, switched off antialiasing and get propper info text (pale blue) in each corner.
However, the minor/major bodie's names are garbled. They appear as rows of small, green rectangles with diff. heights and brightnesses.
Any clues?
CU,
Axel
