This usually means either that Celestia cannot find the surface texture images (they must be in the medres directory) or that your graphics card does not have enough memory to load all of the images.

Please describe your system in detail. See the "Preliminary User's FAQ" for how to do that.

If you have version 1.3.0 or later, you can put the your models, ssc, etc in your extras directory. I Have the shroxmars add-on which inludes the Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey. Here is my directory structure:

Celestia\extras\shroxmars\shroxmars.ssc
Celestia\extras\shroxmars\models\marsglobalsurvr.3ds
Celestia\extras\shroxmars\models\marsodyssey.3ds

The directory 'shroxmars' can be named anything you like. Basically, the directory structure follows that of the Celestia root directory. Here is how I have my voyager spacecraft organized.

Celestia\extras\voyager\data\voyager1.xyz
Celestia\extras\voyager\data\voyager2.xyz
Celestia\extras\voyager\models\voyager.3ds
Celestia\extras\voyager\textures\medres\voyager.jpg
Celestia\extras\voyager\voyager.ssc

It's quite handy being able to organize files in this manner.

For more info installing add-ons, check out this tutorial on Selden's sight:

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Orleans)
GeForce 8400 GS 256MB

The black sphere always means that the model can't be located (ie its in the wrong place or missing) Surface textures being missing won't turn a model into a black sphere. If your models are all in the right place then you'll probably have to get a better graphics card... Give us your system details anyway though

DanielJ has a Gforce4 mx440 se, not sure about ram size though
So showing models should be no problem

And as far as i know the MGS, and Frienship 7 dosen't have textures
other tha a flag here or there

So he must have the model in the wrong place, or named wrong.
