Bug?

Post #1by ElChristou » 13.03.2009, 21:34

This is related to the AltSurface feature.
Can one use this feature to completely change the look of a planet?
A simple example is Don E. terraformed Mars. In AltSurface, one can define some new map parameters, but what about the atmosphere? In the case of Don E. map, we need to change Mars' atmosphere to something similar to Earth...

Apparently, this will cause the contextual menu to not work anymore on Mars, it's why I've open this thread as a bug report. Anyway, I think we should be able with AltSurface to tweak all the visual parameters of a planet, not just the maps... Could that be possible?

Can you give an example of something that causes the context menu to stop working?

The Atmosphere is not part of the Surface, so it is ignored when specified in an AltSurface declaration.

I agree that it would be nice if one could dynamically change more than just the Surface.

Seems on osX a non conform entry in AltSurface result in no contextual menu for the body in question... :?

I checked: invalid AltSurface parameters like Atmosphere are ignored, but the AltSurface definition still appears in the context menu. I'm currently missing the power supply for my MacBook, so I can only test on Windows right now.

Ok, but apart the eventual bug on the osX side, what about extending AltSurface's properties to include atmosphere?

You can open an item on the SourceForge feature tracker, but this isn't something that I'm likely to have time to do in the next year. Someone else could work on it though... My recommendation would be to call it something else, perhaps AltAppearance.

Mmmh... so it's everything but simple...
If more people are interested I'll do a request on the tracker...

No one else? No request then? (Sorry Selden, I think better not bothering Chris just to satisfy the two of us... :?)
