Hi!
I just found out that the last time I logged in was back in 2005!! Thanks for keeping me here
And thank, You for a brilliant piece of software! All this time I've had no problems going thru different versions, using different textures, models, etc.
I'll guess that's why I haven't used the forum, sorry
But now, after getting a new GPU something is odd.
I'm running Celestia v1.5.1 on a XP2400+ (old, I know..) with the ASUS AH3650 SILENT-512MByte (ATI GPU), and 2x1GB of dual channel main memory on Windows XP SP3. All on a AsRock K7NF2-RAID motherboard. (I don't use the RAID function).
And the OpenGL Driver:
----------------------------
Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series
Version: 2.1.7976 Release
GLSL version: 1.20
Max simultaneous textures: 8
Max texture size: 8192
Max cube map size: 8192
Point size range: 1.000000 - 63.000000
My old Graphics (ATI R9800Pro) ran everything well with version 1.4.1 on the very same machine, and had half(literally) the starttime; no problems.
After updating to 1.5.1 I get the following:
- It definitely starts slower. I suspect a driver problem could be the problem here?
- The Earth (a ~20MB model) looks ok to begin with:
Until I rotate the image. Then I get this:
Moon looks good though:
I should say that when moving around those four colors ONLY show up on the earth. (ALSO with the standard textures!)
Really looks weird with this W(hite)M(agenta)B(lue)C(yan) color scheme
Driver problem or Celestia??
--
BUT, besides the startup time and the Earth problem all is fine and running smoother and much faster (Yes, even with that old CPU) with the AH3650
Even flying through this is totally smooth in 1600x1200:

Celestia 1.5.1 bug?
Re: Celestia 1.5.1 bug?
Claus,
I would say you need to check your graphics drivers make sure there the latest from your cards manufacturer.

Re: Celestia 1.5.1 bug?
It is....sort of
The original ASUS driver is not working very well with the card. I've been through tons of forums, and it seems to be a consistent problem. The AH3650 works like supposed to with the driver SAPPHIRE made for their 3650 cards..which is a little odd, to say the least.
I might just deliver the card back, since it's not working well in a couple of 3D apps. Funny thing is that Need For Speed, Unreal Tournament 2003, Google Earth, Trackmania United, X3 etc. works perfect. As does movie playback of any kind. But I'll guess You are right with the driver thing: 3Dmark (any of them) and Battlefield 1942 goes bluescreen, which my old R9800 didn't.
But I also found it strange that ONLY the earth gets the four color squares in Celestia. Everything else is good, whether it's different model sizes, add-ons etc. Even the big ISS model is looking fine, in front of the wrong colored earth.
Looks like the card is one of those "we-have-some-chips-left-over" kind of thing; let's make a driver quick and get rid of them...
A shame since the AH3650 is really sweet in the things that DO work.
And sorry for not posting it in the DISPLAY thread. Didn't see it before I posted.
Thanks for answering anyway
Best, Claus.

Re: Celestia 1.5.1 bug?
Problem solved - somehow...
By turning off labeling of planets, I don't get any graphics errors in celestia at all. All other labels can be on, every other parameter can be edited and so on, no errors. ONLY when labeling is turned on for planets.
Sure it isn't a Celestia bug??
