Hello,
I'm running V1.2.5 of Celestia on my SiS 630 Redhat 7.3 machine and there's a strange problem with Celestia. Whenever it tries to render a picture of Earth or the Moon (and only these it seems) the app pauses, all of the fonts corrupt and from that point on all of the textures are replaced by plain white until it is restarted from the shell. Any options I''m missing?

It sounds like the problem is that you're running out of texture memory . . . Celestia tries to load the large Earth and Moon textures, exhausts texture memory, font and planet textures are evicted, and pretty much everything gets screwed up. I'd recommend using the lower resolution textures--to enable them, press 'r' after starting Celestia.

Textures On Earth
Thanks for the replies!
However, pressing 'r' after Celestia starts doesn't make any difference. My graphics card is (admittedly pretty low powered) the onboard SiS 630 (according to lspci) and it is running using the "SiS 300/630/530 DR Mode", Mesa drivers by "Brian Paul". The version numbers are:
GL_VERSION: 1.2 Mesa 3.4.2
GLU_VERSION: 1.3
GLUT_API_VERSION: 3
GLUT_XLIB_IMPLEMENTATION: 15
(from glinfo)
Whilst the 3D support for this card isn't completely bug-free (at least not on my machine) it is generally good. I have allocated 64MB of RAM to the graphics chip, which is the maximum available. Perhaps this just isn't enough for the SiS 630 and Celestia?

no textures
Hello,
I noticed the same problem with "no textures" on my Win98 SE system with NVidia Riva TNT 64 graphics card since I installed celestia 1.2.5.
Sometimes when demo is started the textures (I use 2k textures) of earth are correctly displayed, and also moon, but when I travel to saturn or any following object no texture will be visible then.
If demo is then restarted no textures will be displayed, nor with any further script.
Greetings
