Yes you heard it right, this addon actually has all of the ~793700 asteroids from March 31st, 2019's MPCORB.DAT file.
The resulting .ssc file is over 360 MB big (zipped: 42.6 MiB), so it might take a while to download it all.
WARNING: The .ssc file, as a whole, might (or will) bring Celestia (or even your PC) to a complete halt (unless you have asteroid orbits turned off), because of the number of asteroids added by it. Proceed with caution.

Perhaps you can contribute your addon to the Celestia Origin team for inclusion in their next release

1) We have our own full base from which the release is formed.
2) Include the full base in the release = the release will be very heavy for the vast majority of systems.

The warning is there for a reason.

This seems to be all of then...
Added after 1 hour 7 minutes:First update! Now I will try my best to update this catalog monthly.
The updates minor planet catalog now consists of 930,678 minor planets.
Little acknowledgement before the MPC comes in:
This research has made use of data and/or services provided by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center.

Thanks for the addon! Well, in order for you to upload monthly, how would you find your sources?

I use the MPC as my source for minor planets, since they are literally the main authority over minor planet discoveries and observations.

Ahhhhhhh. That great! However, you could try other sources from time to time, since information varies between them

Woah, my poor Celestia struggled 2-3 minutes to toggle the labels on and everything lags (also if labels are off), so I didn't even want to try the same with the orbits, I don't even want to know what happens when I turn them on too ...
anyways, the mark script can't be run:
- Screenshot (20785).png (6.83 KiB) Viewed 10585 times
(I renamed it so I know what this script toggles on/off)
Which is actually weird since it has only one constant
asteroid and changes only the value of it, without assigning it to a new name.
So instead of
Code: Select all
asteroid = celestia:find("Sol/Ceres")
asteroid:mark("yellow","disk",5,0.5)
you could write something like
Code: Select all
celestia:find("Sol/Ceres"):mark("yellow","disk",5,0.5)
in the file.
