Post #1by Art Blos » 30.12.2018, 21:01

Dear members of the Celestia community!

We’d like to introduce our Celestia Origin project whose goal is to upgrade Celestia 1.6.1 with the most current information about celestial bodies without modifying the source code. This project is the largest one of its kind in the Russian Internet.

Our team is constantly monitoring space-related news and publications to collect the latest information about known space objects as well as scientific theories. As the result, we have created a unique assembly of Celestia add-ons. Most of the work has been done by the team members, while the rest was acquired from other parties. Each celestial body in our assembly has been updated with all available information, including physical and orbital parameters, alternative naming and topographic locations where available.

Project’s home page is located at https://vk.com/celestiaorigin

Project Members:
  • Artyom Goncharov aka Art Blos - founder and head of the project, main developer of the collection, group administrator;
  • Artyom Volgin aka Zemlyanin - creator of tools for automatic data collection and creator of several unique add-ons, consultant for various scientific issues, help in complex calculations;
  • Askaniy Anpilogov aka Askaniy - creator of textures, models and locations, main helper with ideas;
  • Greg Frieger - creator of the largest database of minor body shapes (https://space.frieger.com/asteroids/), helper utilities and scripts;
  • Anton Sobolev aka Vision - project promotion and support.

The latest version (published on December 30th 2018) includes:
  • 9 planets (including a hypothetical one);
  • 200 planetary moons (with 4 hypothetical ones);
  • 5 dwarf planets;
  • 9 moons of dwarf planets;
  • 3434 asteroids (including 22 binary and 1 trinary);
  • 64 moons of asteroids;
  • 1124 comets;
  • About 2 million stars of the Milky Way;
  • 38195 stars outside the Milky Way;
  • 3839 exoplanets + 1 exomoon, 4 rogue planets and 1 hypothetical;
  • 10943 galaxies;
  • 373 globular clusters;
  • 1073 open clusters;
  • 33 nebulae;
  • 69 spacecrafts.

Installation instructions
1. Use the attached torrent file
Celestia Origin v.7 (30.12.2018).torrent
(17.59 KiB) Downloaded 659 times
or the direct link to download the add-on;
2. Download and install Celestia 1.6.1 from https://celestia.space/download.html ;
3. Unpack and launch “Install.bat” script under administrator’s account (using context menu) and wait for it to complete. Note: the script deletes some of the files from the vanilla Celestia installation, so consider making a backup copy of Celestia installation folder if needed;
4. Unpack and overwrite the content of add-on’s Celestia folder into Celestia installation folder;
5. We’d recommend to run a disk defragmentation before starting the updated Celestia for the first time.

Pleasant flight!

There's a problem with the file. 7zip says it cannot open it as an archive.

It has not fully downloaded to the server. Wait a bit.

Just in case I say that the archive weighs 3.41 GB.

Hi Art Blos, I was wondering why you have the file "Binar starnames.stc", since the starnames.dat has all the information but in a more compact, and faster-to-load format.

This is the only way to russify the names of stars from a file stars.dat.

Will it still work if you remove Binar starnames.stc?

Obviously, there will be, but many stars will lose names. :toothless:
In fact, downloading this file takes very little time compared to the others.

Oh, good. I didn't delete it, but there was another problem. There were some duplicate exoplanets around stars, and I think the problem was from the Potentially habitable folder.

Oh. Well, I'm not sure what happened, because there are duplicate exoplanets for me.

Apparently, if you create a custom/non-Celestia Origin planet in a separate folder; eg. Potentially Habitable > Proxima Cen, it wont be replaced. It may happen to every custom/non-Celestia Origin planet.

Well, now that I think about it, I may have had my own custom Proxima Centauri and Kepler-90 addons.

Added after 4 hours 54 minutes:
Nevermind, I found the problem. It was the Potentially habitable folder.

  • Right screenshot Project "Celestia Origin", release dated December 30, 2018

Note. Base locations is the same.

Croc,

04-2018 and 12-2018

I think that :
Meshes and textures are not oriented in the same way with respect to the planetary grid; which shifts rentals. you have to reorient the mesh.

The number of Dione`s locations (77) did not change relative to version 1.6.1.
In both screenshots, the locations are clearly not from Celestia Origin.

Unfortunately, I did not get to try out all the features of Celestia Origin as I'm away from home until Friday. But I have gotten a few glimpses of it, and so far it looks awesome!

Just curious, as my download is not done yet: Are you using Lua Universal Tools or still Lua Edu Tools for Celestia Origin?

My screenshots in post # 15 are made using Lua Universal Tools v5.0 beta 2 (LUT-5.2).
