Dear members of the Celestia community!

We’d like to introduce our Celestia Origin project whose goal is to upgrade Celestia 1.6.1 with the most current information about celestial bodies without modifying the source code. This project is the largest one of its kind in the Russian Internet.

Our team is constantly monitoring space-related news and publications to collect the latest information about known space objects as well as scientific theories. As the result, we have created a unique assembly of Celestia add-ons. Most of the work has been done by the team members, while the rest was acquired from other parties. Each celestial body in our assembly has been updated with all available information, including physical and orbital parameters, alternative naming and topographic locations where available.

Project’s home page is located at https://vk.com/celestiaorigin

Project Members:
  • Artyom Goncharov aka Art Blos - founder and head of the project, chief add-on developer and group administrator;
  • Artyom Volgin aka Zemlyanin - data collection tools, add-on development and scientific advise;
  • Askaniy Anpilogov aka Askaniy - textures, objects and location data;
  • Greg Frieger - creator of the largest database of minor body shapes (https://space.frieger.com/asteroids/), helper utilities and scripts;
  • Anton Sobolev aka Vision - project promotion and support.

The latest version (published on August 30th 2018) includes:
  • 9 planets (including a hypothetical one);
  • 200 planetary satellites (with 4 hypothetical ones);
  • 5 dwarf planets;
  • 9 dwarf moons;
  • 3411 asteroids, 22 binary and 1 trinary;
  • 64 minor-planet moon;
  • 1123 comets;
  • About 2 million stars of the Milky Way;
  • 38195 stars outside the Milky Way;
  • 578 exoplanets (including a hypothetical one);
  • 10943 galaxies;
  • 373 globular clusters;
  • 1073 open clusters;
  • 33 nebulas;
  • 68 spacecrafts.

Installation instructions
1. Use the attached torrent file
Celestia Origin v.6 (30.08.2018).torrent
(15.6 KiB) Downloaded 414 times
or the direct link to download the add-on;
2. Download and install Celestia 1.6.1 from https://celestia.space/download.html ;
3. Unpack and launch “Install.bat” script under administrator’s account (using context menu) and wait for it to complete. Note: the script deletes some of the files from the vanilla Celestia installation, so consider making a backup copy of Celestia installation folder if needed;
4. Unpack and overwrite the content of add-on’s Celestia folder into Celestia installation folder;
5. We’d recommend to run a disk defragmentation before starting the updated Celestia for the first time.

Pleasant flight!

What program would run a .torrent file?

Art Blos, about the improved Cassini-Huygens. The model is missing textures, and toutatis created a rereleased version with the textures. I included the textures here below. Also, why didn't you use the cmod Huygens which was also included?

I knew there were no textures, but toutatis did not publish another version. Thank you for the addon, a little later I'll look it up.

Because the version without textures looked much worse than the one we had. It outwardly inferior and in the number of polygons.

Ah, ok. Now that I look back, the cmod Huygens didn't look very good, with or without textures. Also, a suggestion I have is to include FarGetaNik's Galileo and Stardust addons from Project Echoes. It may take some time to get them to work, like the Deep Impact addon, but I'm sure you guys can do it. It actually amazes me how much effort and work was put into this! :clap:

I saw "Galileo" by FarGetaNik, but in my opinion, Snowfall-The-Cat to do better.
"Stardust" we plan to add. It is possible that even in the next release.

The geomagnetic field is created by the Earth. Why does the geomagnetic field do not rotate synchronously with the Earth when the Earth rotates??
At very high speeds of the Earth 1e+008x it is clearly noticeable that the geomagnetic field rotates in the opposite direction than the Earth itself?

Art Blos, are you planning to add the James Webb Space Telescope? It is yet another addon, and I think it would be a great addition to Celestia Origin.

I managed to install it, but Saturn’s propeller moonlets and S/2004 S3, S4, and S6 do not appear. I’m curious why.

I did not edit the author's parameters. At the moment I'm just implemented control through LET.

I will add it only when it is launched.

These objects are disabled by default. Click on the button "Set Addon Visibility" (from LET). In the list that appears, activate hypothetical objects and propellers.

Try clicking on the right edge of the screen.
In general, it seems to me that the installation went wrong (The clouds of the Earth did not seem to have changed). Exactly everything was done according to the instructions?
