"Paper" model of DSN telescope

Just for fun, I decided to try to make a 3D model from a design for a paper model. It took about a week from start to finish in my "copious" spare time. I based it on a design for a paper model of one of the Goldstone tracking telescopes, which is available at http://deepspace.jpl.nasa.gov/dsn/educ/model.html

The paper model was rated as "moderate" difficulty. So far as 3D models go, it was relatively easy, although using the hand-drawn diagrams was somewhat frustrating.

The result is available as an Addon for Celestia at
http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... dss-24.zip
(546KB, expands to about 1MB)

p.s.
Unlike a real paper model, this one tracks the specified target.

Hm, the only thing what we need now is a 3D model for Celestia from the real Deep-Space-Network antenna.
(Where we can place the 3D paper model inside of one of its researching rooms ;-))

Hi Selden, please, don't be mad with me, I'm only joking.
You're add-on is even more than that what the image here is showing; Its moving parts make the model to something special. :) I will save it near the "hale telescope" (a real "masterpiece"!) in my Celestia add-on directory.

Thanks (for both add-ons!)
Michael
