Toutatis,
.fbx is a 3D format used by Autodesk. Over time this format has evolved. Most of the files on the NASA website use version 6.
Blender v2.79b import / export the .fbx version 7.1 (fbx 2013).
download at :
https://www.autodesk.com/developer-network/platform-technologies/fbx-converter-archives1st : open FBC Converter, add the files fbx of Nasa, change directory and name of output file; choose the format FBX 2013 as output.
2nd : open Blender, import in format .fbx, choose the new .fbx file you just converted. Once it's loaded into the Blender interface it can be exported.
3th : in the Blender menu, choose 'export' in 3ds
4th: open the .3ds file with '3ds2cmod' and convert it (ascii or binary)
5th: open .cmod with cmodview and correct colors and other settings. Generally, I put the 'opacity' parameter at 1.
.cmod files were designed specifically for Celestia but long ago and text file names should
not exceed 8 characters out of extension, for example 12345678.png, the names that are too long are truncated and therefore not active.
Texture files are not exported by Blender but colors are exported and can be modified in cmodview.
Once your modifications are done in cmodview, you have to save them via the 'Save' or 'Save as' menu, a .cmod binary file is created or updated.
Be careful, any textures you use must be
in '/textures / medres' and the .cmod template must be in
'models', to conform to Celestia and for cmodview to find them.
I use existing textures in the previous Celestia addons (foil, solar cells, ...)

the 2 SATCAT parameter lines are present on the n2yo.com website
for my part I made a sheet .xls to explode the different parameters contained in these 2 lines.

the TDRS 2nd and 3rd generation satellite found these antennas.
I put them slightly transparent to be true to reality.
There remains the first generation where there is also a problem; here it is a forgotten surface vectorized in the original file.
the body of the 1st generation was octagonal and the 2nd and 3rd were cubic, and the longitudinal antennas were not the same.
I do not know how to fix that.
