Hello Gironde... thanks for these great add-ons... plz, can you describe all process of convertation from FBX to CMOD... in case with TERRA or other FBX models... I have problems... all models I convert from FBX are without color and texture... I also use Blender, Autodesc FBX Converter, MeshLab and Cmodviewer... but I still don't understand everything in this...

Toutatis,

.fbx is a 3D format used by Autodesk. Over time this format has evolved. Most of the files on the NASA website use version 6.
Blender v2.79b import / export the .fbx version 7.1 (fbx 2013).
download at : https://www.autodesk.com/developer-network/platform-technologies/fbx-converter-archives

1st : open FBC Converter, add the files fbx of Nasa, change directory and name of output file; choose the format FBX 2013 as output.

2nd : open Blender, import in format .fbx, choose the new .fbx file you just converted. Once it's loaded into the Blender interface it can be exported.

3th : in the Blender menu, choose 'export' in 3ds

4th: open the .3ds file with '3ds2cmod' and convert it (ascii or binary)

5th: open .cmod with cmodview and correct colors and other settings. Generally, I put the 'opacity' parameter at 1.

.cmod files were designed specifically for Celestia but long ago and text file names should not exceed 8 characters out of extension, for example 12345678.png, the names that are too long are truncated and therefore not active.
Texture files are not exported by Blender but colors are exported and can be modified in cmodview.
Once your modifications are done in cmodview, you have to save them via the 'Save' or 'Save as' menu, a .cmod binary file is created or updated.
Be careful, any textures you use must be in '/textures / medres' and the .cmod template must be in 'models', to conform to Celestia and for cmodview to find them.

I use existing textures in the previous Celestia addons (foil, solar cells, ...)

n2yo.com

the 2 SATCAT parameter lines are present on the n2yo.com website
for my part I made a sheet .xls to explode the different parameters contained in these 2 lines.

Toutatis,

thank for tdrs.cmod 30-05-2018 18:48

the TDRS 2nd and 3rd generation satellite found these antennas.
I put them slightly transparent to be true to reality.
There remains the first generation where there is also a problem; here it is a forgotten surface vectorized in the original file.

the body of the 1st generation was octagonal and the 2nd and 3rd were cubic, and the longitudinal antennas were not the same.

I do not know how to fix that.

Thanks very much Gironde... I will learn...   ... but about TDRS... I used Wings 3D to join the main antennas... and now it looks better...

Yes, that is a problem...

but Gironde... let's prepare other spacecrafts for Celestia... there is OSIRIS-REx... Space Observatory FERMI-GLAST... Orbital Martian Spacecraft MAVEN... and many others... we have 3d models so lets prepare them for Celestia... together this task is easier to solve...

Toutatis,

what's not working?

for the material editor menu to be active, you must first select an area to work with the mouse.

after the settings become editable.

note that for 'opacity' and 'shininess' after editing the zone, you must validate it in memory by changing the zone cursor.
when I edit 'opacity' after I point my cursor at 'shininess' and vice versa, otherwise the change is not taken into account.
After we can change the area to edit.

Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) is a decommissioned NASA Earth observation satellite created to develop and validate a number of instrument and spacecraft bus breakthrough technologies. It was intended to enable the development of future Earth imaging observatories that will have a significant increase in performance while also having reduced cost and mass. The spacecraft was part of the New Millennium Program. It was the first satellite to map active lava flows from space; the first to measure a facility's methane leak from space; and the first to track re-growth in a partially logged Amazon forest from space. EO-1 captured scenes such as the ash after the World Trade Center attacks, the flooding in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, volcanic eruptions and a large methane leak in southern California... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Observing-1

This photo clearly shows that the upper part of the TPP with gold foil, the lower part with silver foil:

Proceeding from this, we conclude that the numerous artistic images of TESS correctly reflect the color spectrum of the spacecraft. For example:

Toutatis,

I found another satellite: FootSat
launch 2018 06 14 15:00:00 utc
end of mission: 2018 07 15 15:00 utc
returned to the atmosphere and landing in Moscow (Luzhniki)
May the best win !

The OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer) is a NASA asteroid study and sample-return mission. Launched on 8 September 2016, its mission is to study asteroid 101955 Bennu, a carbonaceous asteroid, and return a sample to Earth on 24 September 2023 for detailed analysis. The material returned is expected to enable scientists to learn more about the formation and evolution of the Solar System, its initial stages of planet formation, and the source of organic compounds that led to the formation of life on Earth. If successful, OSIRIS-REx will be the first U.S. spacecraft to return samples from an asteroid.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSIRIS-REx

And from today OSIRIS-REx in Celestia Space already!
