Hey toutatis, I found a model of the Spitzer Space Telescope that is much better than the one in Celestia Origin.

It can be found here: http://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/explore/24-Models

It's the "Lightwave 3D" file.

Could you prepare this for use in Celestia?

Added after 2 hours 51 minutes:
I have discovered that the lightwave file has missing parts, so you'll need some of the models from the "3DS Pieces" zip file.

Another possibility is to use the 3DS Pieces models and combine them, and then color the model with colors from the lightwave model (as well as from pictures and artists conceptions).

No problem for me... only time I need...

Ok cool! Another thing I've found: from what I've seen the circular cover for the telescope (the "dust cover") was jettisoned once Spitzer began its mission, so there is no need to include it in the model, unless you want to make an earlier stage for it before it began looking at the stars.

Viking Orbiters (1975-1980)

Post #729by DaveBowman2001 » 24.09.2018, 23:45

The Viking program consisted of a pair of American space probes sent to Mars, Viking 1 and Viking 2. Each spacecraft was composed of two main parts: an orbiter designed to photograph the surface of Mars from orbit, and a lander designed to study the planet from the surface. The orbiters also served as communication relays for the landers once they touched down.

The Viking orbiters' design is heavily derived from that of Mariner 9. For this purpose, the meshes rendered here are copied from the said probe (since I don't know how to model yet). Both probes are visible in Celestia until 2019, when it is predicted to enter the atmosphere of Mars

In addition, the landers' .SSC file is modified slightly too

REQUIRED ADDONS:
Mariner 9
Viking Lander

(Both from the Motherlode)

BTW, upon installing, replace and delete the viking.ssc found inside the Viking Lander addon

DaveBowman2001, I tried to look for a free 3D model of the Viking orbiters on the web, but no luck. The ones that I found costed money, so unless someone is willing to pay for it, we're out of luck.
If you see that I made a dumb or nonsensical post years ago, please forgive me in advance.

at the moment I have work with 7 models... WIND, ICESat-2, SWIFT, HESSI-RHESSI, ICON, Map-Wmap, SPITZER... all these models are very detailed, so this is not an easy work but only if about time... there is no another problems...
but all I know and all you need to know that I will make these models...

There's an app for mobile devices called Solar Walk 2; it's a 3D space simulator much like Celestia (although without the customization capabilities). They have very detailed 3D models for spacecraft that we're currently missing, such as Gaia and the Viking orbiters. I wonder if one of us could contact the developers and ask for these models, as they would be very useful.

There is a free simple .MSH file of the Viking spacecraft available on the Orbit Hangar Mods website though, but I don't know how to make them compatible for Celestia

Try asking toutatis, he knows how to work with Orbiter models.

Nope, its not. Its just because i named this account (and every other one i use) after the anime Gurren Lagann, which i keep rewatching.
