Just FYI, the orbital parameters for Wolf 1061 have been significantly updated by Tuomi, et al.'s paper posted a few days ago (link). The outermost planet especially has a shorter, more circular orbit.

hmm yeah planet d has 0.55 eccentricity? for a system that contains a potentially habitable exoplanet it definitely did seem off to me.

All of the planets do have a synchronous orbit. I can't understand what you're trying to say in the second statement.

I imagine all of the planets to have significant atmospheres, so the "eyeball" effect wouldn't appear here, as the atmosphere would transfer heat to the dark side of the planet.

Plus I really don't know how to do the eyeball effect anyway

2. the medium (liquid water)
3. the hotter (no water)

After you must place well the rotation and direction to have Always the same lighted side.

It's perfectly plausible for a tidally locked planet to have significant heat redistribution to the night side via its atmosphere. Not all tidally locked worlds will have such dichotomoes.

And if you don't believe me, consider the fact that Venus' surface temperature is effectively constant between the night side and day side, despite a rotation period of hundreds of days.

Venus turns on itself in 243 d (for a revolution of 225 d).
Venus is closer of its star (G2V) than K2-72e (K2V).
Venus has a hot atmospher at ~460°C with big pression 9.3 10e6 Pa and composed by CO2 (96.5%).
Finally, Venus is unhabited.

1. Since Venus essentially doesn't rotate during its orbit (it does, but very slowly and is almost tidally locked), the far side of Venus only sees sunlight every ~170 days. If your house didn't get sunlight for 170 days, it would be very cold, wouldn't it? But Venus is the same temperature on both sides, showing that tidally locked planets with atmospheres can spread heat evenly along its surface.
2. So? What about the distance. A tidally locked planet doesn't change if its closer or farther away.
2. This is true, but simulations show that an Earth-like atmosphere can do the same thing. In addition, a study found the TRAPPIST-1 planets to be water-rich. Since water deters forming an "eyeball" planet (the water will simply rain back down) I can reasonably assume that if the TRAPPIST-1 planets aren't "eyeballed" then neither is K2-72, which is farther away.
Also, K2-72 is M2.7V, not K2V
Venus being Uninhabited is irrelevant to the discussion. Does a planet stop being "eyeballed" simply because no one lives there?

Venus is like now because there is a warming climate by its atmospher which turns quicker than the day.
Venus is closer our sun brighter than a M2.7V star (lum=0.00285xSun) :eek:

All closed exoplanets around type M stars are tidally locked because they are closer, this is a fact !

Try to keep this in your young mind even for a fictious system. :biggrin:

NB : for an inhabited planet the temperature must be arounded to 256°K, take example on Earth...
