I had to modify the classification of asteroids in the Main Asteroid Belt
sources:
** https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_de_familles_de_planètes_mineures
** https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catégorie:Famille_de_planètes_mineures
modified and moved: (comments are modified, the objects are the sames)
MariaFamily from MBA-IMB CPI to MBA-MBA CPII
SveaFamily from MBA-MBA CPII to MBA-IMB CPI
TakehiroFamily from MBA-MBA CPII to MBA-OMB CPIII
TelramundFamily from MBA-MBA CPII to MBA-OMB CPIII
According to sources, Hungaria Group is outside the Main Asteroid Belt,
and is located in the Inner Periphery of the Main Asteroid Belt.
Cybele Group and Hilda Group are also outside the Main Asteroid Belt,
and are located in the Outer Periphery of the Main Asteroid Belt.
Griqua Group, Zhongguo Group, Strongly Unstable Group and Extremly Unstable Group are located in Hecuba Gap
In these sources, other families are proposed by the astronomers who are interested in them.
These new families have not yet been made official and therefore their composition is still difficult to find.

I've had crashing issues myself. It's the PC memory that is overloaded.
I had to deactivate the ssc files of my asteroids from 500000 to 599999 then the lua tables of the MBA-MBA asteroids, keeping only
those from 0 to 10000
My Windows 11 PC is equipped with 8GB of physical memory but that is not enough and for this I decided to add an additional 4GB.
I'm waiting to receive the new strip to see how the PC will react with Celestia.
You should know that Windows does not free all the memory used by software that is stopped.
At the last crash, there was 1.2GB of free memory left.

I have 16 GB of RAM and my PC is still not able to handle a THAT huge number of objects. Loading a big asteroid addon (maybe a few thousands, but not millions of asteroids) works fine - unless I turn on orbits, then Celestia struggles on rendering all the the orbits and thus freezes so I need to use the good old task manager to finally kill Celestia.gironde wrote:My Windows 11 PC is equipped with 8GB of physical memory but that is not enough and for this I decided to add an additional 4GB.
The more objects there are, the more Celestia has to calculate (3D graphics, orbit physics, etc.).
Crew: "We are orbiting a black hole."
Control Center: "Do not fly too close to the black hole!"
Crew: "OH OOPS..."
Celestia versions:
1.6.3, 1.7.0 sRGB, 1.6.1 ED (plain)
Current projects:
Celestial (a Celestia-like program written in Python)
