Helix Nebula

Post #101by Trolligi 112477 » 14.12.2024, 23:16

This addon adds the nearby Helix Nebula, as well as its central star and its candidate superheated exoplanet. The nebula model itself was entirely done by Lux HMT, so thanks to him for that. Also credits to LukeCEL for the tail model and cubicApoc for the emissive model which I used for the planet

Helix Nebula 2

Post #102by Trolligi 112477 » 19.12.2024, 00:49

yeah so turns out the planet isn't real, according to https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.06332 anyway, so here is the version without the planet

Cl 1806-20

Post #103by Trolligi 112477 » 02.01.2025, 23:02

This addon adds the cluster Cl 1806-20, which contains LBV 1806-20 within it. Note that Cl 1806-20 can also be found in my DHMSA-CHIIR addon (viewtopic.php?p=155911#p155911), but that was from 3 years ago and since then my techniques have improved. You don't need to delete any files if you have DHMSA-CHIIR already installed

This addon also adds the magnetar SGR 1806-20 and its hypothetical exoplanet, as described in https://www.aanda.org/articles/aa/full_html/2024/06/aa47828-23/aa47828-23.html as an explanation for observed fast radio bursts - the paper proposes that they are created when a planet on an extremely eccentric orbit reaches periastron and is slightly disrupted, and the fragments that are ripped off the planet interact with the star, producing the observed bursts.

Additional star clusters from the VVV survey

Post #104by Trolligi 112477 » 03.01.2025, 23:08

This addon adds 20 star clusters discovered by the VVV survey and 89 of their constituent stars as described by https://www.aanda.org/articles/aa/full_html/2011/08/aa16662-11/aa16662-11.html

RCW 36 and Vela C

Post #105by Trolligi 112477 » 04.01.2025, 21:37

This addon adds RCW 36, a roughly bipolar star-forming region within the huge Vela C molecular cloud, located over 3,200 light years away and part of the Vela Molecular Ridge. RCW 36 is ionised by a central cluster with two O-type stars and a B-type star.

Since RCW 36 and Vela C are closer to the galactic anticentre, this addon is part of GA-MSCHIIR too (see viewtopic.php?p=158690#p158690)

Dumbbell Nebula

Post #106by Trolligi 112477 » 07.01.2025, 00:10

This addon adds the Dumbbell Nebula, a relatively nearby planetary nebula in Vulpecula. Thanks to Lux HMT for making most of the nebula model, once again.

NGC 1491

Post #107by Trolligi 112477 » 07.01.2025, 23:40

This addon adds the nebula NGC 1491, located almost 10,000 light years away in Perseus, as well as its central star, BD+50 886.

Note: studies do say that this nebula is the result of BD+50 886 lighting up a background molecular cloud, aka a "Blister" nebula, given the lack of clear information in the area in general and more importantly the lack of other stars in this complex which are in SIMBAD I just went with depicting this nebula as a normal one

this addon is also part of GA-MSCHIIR (see viewtopic.php?p=158690#p158690) because it is near the galactic anticentre

Helix Nebula 3

Post #108by Trolligi 112477 » 02.02.2025, 23:05

what the hell is going on with the helix nebula planetary system man

Yeah okay so uh a new paper at https://arxiv.org/abs/2412.07863 published in December suggested the existence of another planet... this time another superheated Jupiter-sized exoplanet. That paper ALSO mentioned the super-Earth planet mentioned at https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.03288, which I thought was disproven since a month earlier another paper https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.06332 commented that that signal is actually from a nearby star...

Im gonna email the lead author of the super-Earth planet paper to see what she thinks and Ill come back to you guys or something

anyways uhh this is what that planet and the system as a whole would look like if it exists
