Eagle Nebula

Post #81by Trolligi 112477 » 28.02.2024, 21:21

This addon adds the Eagle Nebula (as well as the Pillars of Creation), and some of its most luminous O and B-type stars. This addon was made with Lux H.M.T.. The distance to the Eagle Nebula is 1706 parsecs.

If you have Nussun's OB associations addon, you need to put that in a separate folder titled "ob-associations" or something, doesn't matter that much, as long as it starts with any letter except z.

I may add more dark nebulosity below the pillars of creation sometime

Trifid Nebula

Post #82by Trolligi 112477 » 22.03.2024, 20:05

This addon adds the Trifid Nebula, and its brightest stars. Once again this addon was made with Lux H.M.T.. The distance to the Trifid Nebula is 1235.7 parsecs.

If you have Nussun's OB associations addon, you need to put that in a separate folder titled "ob-associations" or something, doesn't matter that much, as long as it starts with any letter except z.

Cat's Paw Nebula

Post #83by Trolligi 112477 » 08.04.2024, 13:58

This addon adds almost all bright stars within the Cat's Paw Nebula, also known as NGC 6334. This addon was originally made by Lux H.M.T. and expanded on by me. The distance to the Trifid Nebula is 1750 parsecs.

The addon folder's name starts in zzz so it loads last, just in case there is any other addon that adds this object or stars in it, this will override it

There's also a lot of dust in Cat's Paw which I didn't bother adding

Ring Nebula

Post #84by Trolligi 112477 » 11.04.2024, 21:21

This addon adds the nearby Ring Nebula as well as its central stars. The addon was made with Lux HMT.

I don't think the orientation of the nebula ingame is exactly correct though

Bug Nebula

Post #85by Trolligi 112477 » 12.04.2024, 13:17

This addon adds the nearby Bug Nebula as well as its central star. The addon was made with Lux HMT.

I can confirm that this time the orientation of the nebula is correct

Please redownload the Bug Nebula if you've already downloaded it - I uploaded a new version with the correct orientation of the nebula

Added after 3 hours 42 minutes:
Also redid the Ring Nebula - redownload that if you'd like

GAFO Region

Post #87by Trolligi 112477 » 01.05.2024, 19:34

This small addon adds the GAFO Region, a small star-forming nebula, located in the Virgo Cluster. Its projected distance from NGC 4438 is almost 60,000 light years, meaning it's basically in intergalactic space. A star cluster inside the nebula has also been detected but due to floating point errors I can't include any fictional stars in the star cluster for this addon.

Ingame, the GAFO region is quite a bit further away from NGC 4438 because GAFO is 17 Mpc from Earth and NGC 4438 ingame is not

SECCO 1

Post #88by Trolligi 112477 » 01.05.2024, 20:09

This addon adds SECCO 1, or at least its most massive and bright stars. SECCO 1 is a blue blob, a small intergalactic hydrogen cloud that is now undergoing starburst. These hydrogen clouds were probably stripped off a nearby galaxy as it entered the Virgo cluster, where SECCO 1 is located.

SECCO 1 is made up of two parts, a main body, containing most stars, and a secondary body.

Leo Ring Star-Forming Areas

Post #89by Trolligi 112477 » 05.05.2024, 23:36

This addon adds some star-forming regions within the Leo Ring, a huge 650,000 light year wide ring of intergalactic gas surrounding the Leo Group of galaxies, described in https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2021A&A...651A..77C/abstract . It's all estimated to be about 11 Mpc away.

The addon adds several nebulae, 7 real known stars (with estimated parameters from mass, age and metallicity) as well as several thousand randomly generated stars to visualise known/predicted clusters around these 7 real stars, most of which are very massive O-type stars. (Credits to Nussun's star cluster generator for the clusters)

Corona Australis Molecular Cloud

Post #91by Trolligi 112477 » 12.06.2024, 16:29

This addon adds the entire Corona Australis Molecular Cloud, as well as most of its young stars. The cloud is located at about 149.4 parsecs away.
The cloud also contains a very young star cluster, the Coronet Cluster.

Cat's Eye Nebula

Post #92by Trolligi 112477 » 03.07.2024, 16:30

This addon, made mostly by Lux HMT and finished by me, adds the Cat's Eye Nebula, a planetary nebula in Draco.

Unfortunately the nebula is not in the exactly correct orientation

U Equulei

Post #93by Trolligi 112477 » 24.07.2024, 21:36

This addon adds the post-AGB (likely binary) star U Equulei, located about 4 kpc away. U Equulei has been brightening over the last 3 decades, which has led to some speculation as to why. The most likely explanation is that U Equulei has been accreting material from a circumbinary disk recently, leading to increased luminosity.

NGC 3109

Post #94by Trolligi 112477 » 30.08.2024, 17:51

This addon adds 714 real stars in NGC 3109, a small one-armed spiral galaxy on the edge of the Local Group. It also adds many HII regions and planetary nebulae within the galaxy.

DS 1

Post #95by Trolligi 112477 » 05.10.2024, 16:09

This addon adds the planetary nebula DS 1, located about 2,700 light years away in Vela. The nebula houses the triple star system KV Velorum, composed of a tight binary of a blue subdwarf and red dwarf, orbited by a relatively massive brown dwarf every 29.5 years on an eccentric orbit.

21 binary systems containing neutron stars

Post #96by Trolligi 112477 » 23.10.2024, 22:10

This addon adds 21 binary systems containing neutron stars described by El-Badry et al. 2024 (https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.00089), including the stellar system known as Gaia NS1.

Four such systems from 20 AU away. Gaia NS1 is the top right system

Stars from the Century Survey Galactic Halo Project

Post #97by Trolligi 112477 » 24.10.2024, 20:30

This addon adds 738 blue stars detected by the Century Survey Galactic Halo Project, mostly within the galactic halo, although some are very close and some are located dozens of kiloparsecs from the Sun, in intergalactic space.

Sagittarius Dwarf Irregular Galaxy

Post #99by Trolligi 112477 » 10.11.2024, 23:42

This addon adds 72 real stars in the Sagittarius Dwarf Irregular Galaxy, consisting of 17 carbon stars, 45 red giants, 1 very weird AGB star, and some massive young stars, including a G-type red supergiant. There is comparatively little information on the stellar population of this tiny galaxy in general.

For the full experience, head to galaxies.dsc in your Celestia download and change Sag DIG's code to this:
