DataPacRat wrote:Alright; I just downgraded to Lua 5.1.4-9, and trying to run Celestia provides the exact same error message. Should I try going further down to 5.0?

On Windows it works with the Lua version that comes packaged with Celestia, which I know is Lua 5.1 but I don't know the specific version number. I guess you can try downgrading to 5.0.

DataPacRat wrote:I don't suppose it's possible to turn off Celestia Origin's extra lua-stuff, and just take advantage of its objects, models, and so forth?

It's possible but not easy, since a lot of addons are connected to the Lua Tools.

And, as it turns out, I can't actually perform that downgrade. Lua 5.0 requires "libreadline.so.4()(64bit)" which is provided by readline 4.3, while I have readline 8.0 installed; and since the protected package dnf relies on the newer readline, that's just not going to happen.

So, it looks like I'm out of luck with Celestia Origin. Unless someone has another suggestion, I'll run CO's uninstall script tomorrow, and then try poking at some of the textures and shapefiles to see what I might be able to salvage.
Thank you for your time,

You need either rebuild Celestia against liblua 5.1 or edit scripts to replace table.getn with #. Simple installation of lua 5.1 binary package is not enough.

I'm using Fedora 31 (XFCE spin), on an x86_64; I'm a decent enough user to be able to follow directions to compile this or that, but 'rebuild against liblua 5.1' is beyond what I know how to do.

Does anyone have a list of which scripts would need to be edited, or do I need to look up how to grep recursively through subdirectories?

Just a note from when I tried to do this; replacing table.getn with # is not the only change that would need to be made.

No. You need either 1.6.1 or a more recent beta of 1.6.2.

What is the basis of the statement that CO is not compatible with 1.6.2 beta 1?

If you remember, 1.6.2-beta1 used Lua 5.3 so the LET/LUT didn't work with it. That was fixed in beta2.

What nonsense is this? Module 7-zip, which is part of the installation folder, is completely autonomous. It even does not require the installation of the native archiver.

I don't think 7-Zip's installer the user to authoriz it (though I may be wrong on that, it's been a while since I installed it last).
