Hi, I am 20 years old and I am playing Celestia for over three years, but there are little improvements made on graphics, galaxies, add-ons since 2003. Celestia 1.4.1. is a BIG graphic quality upgrade for the previous one, but still..... I totaly understand that the majority of you guys are working for 40-70 hours a week, have a families and few hours to deal with Celestia, just like myself. But whole this project could advance much faster if you could organize your team better, maybe more people to get on with or Celestia could become payable project. You could, in this first phase, create a larger Celestia (~200MB) with many add-ons included so people don't have to download for celestiamotherlode.com on and on, which is in inteligence way, very stupid and retrograde behavior. This is just my suggestion to make a Celestia to even better, great and very realistic space simulator.

Hello, welcome on the forum!

If you play with Celestia since 3 years now, you should know that the whole philosophy of the project is to be OpenSource (->free, only developped by volunteer).
It's true things could be better, but for this we need people highly specialized (coding, maths, physics)... One way to attrack them could be to connect Celestia to high spheres of studies, research etc. Unfortunatly this is also time consuming and for know no one seems to have such time to work on this...

Little by little...

I operate under a simple principal, when it comes to free programs of the quality that Celestia provides: gratitude for what is there, and patience regarding updates. Even if it is years between updates, I see no one as having the right to complain that something for *free* is not "moving along fast enough".

This isn't meant to be a post bawling anyone out, mind you. I'm just stating my opinion.

John,

I certainly agree with you. And incidentally, if our friend did not realize the enormous improvements e.g. on the display of galaxies from a few in miserable quality to 10000+ with correct orientation, colors and shapes, then it seems our friend cannot really know what he's talking about...He certainly does not know what an effort and know-how was required to achieve that level of improvement. While most people take it "for granted" that the rendering speed for 10000+ galaxies is about the same as for NO galaxies, the required tuning of culling techniques and coding structures is VERY high indeed.

I bet our galaxy-criticising friend is hardly able to tell us what catalog of galaxies is now /completely/ implemented in Celestia... ;-)
