Internet Implementation

Post #1by Darkmiss » 08.09.2002, 19:30

I there anywhere on the web that constantly puts up data
as to where the iss is, or where weather satalites are
and so on....

If so, what is the likleyhood of it being implemented into Celestia,
so data is colected from the net, and orbits adjusted to there correct positions :?:

just wanted to know if this sort of thing is posible with Celestia.

A frequently updated (usually daily) text file of keplerian orbital elements of selected satellites, including the ISS, is available at http://www.orbitessera.com/data/orbital/kepele.txt
See http://www.orbitessera.com/html/keplerian_elts.html for details.

It includes HST, COBE, Hipparchos and other science satellites, too.

It doesn't include Mir, of course. :(

Hi
The Celestrak site http://www.celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/
releases the NORAD orbital elements for all the satellites orbiting the Earth every day as TLE files. It's very easy to get useful data of the TLE file in order to make ssc files as this is the way I did for the Iridium and Globalstar constellations and for the other satellites add-ons I did.
I guess this could be add as an option in Celestia so that when we launch it, it download the file, sort the data and creates a new ssc file. But Celestia would have to be restarted as for now it can't load ssc files while opened.
