You'll need to explain what the actual problem is first.

Also, if you are having trouble, you simply must
include the details of your operating system, graphics card,
if any, and software version of Celestia and operating
system.

If you could include this information, the geniuses here
can almost certainly direct you to either a solution, or an
explanation.

By the way, have you tried contacting John himself?

Thanks.

Hi Braindead, thanks for your prompt response.

You are correct of course, even after 'years' of Celestia I should have

remembered the vital stats thingy.

In review I realise there was no readme.txt for this add-on.

This is what I attempted.

After downloading said file - 4k Jupiter surface texture (JPG 9.98MB).

I unzipped into - Celestia>textures>medres.

I discovered the file now appeared as 4kjupiter.png

I renamed the existing jupiter.jpg to oldjupiter.jpg

then renamed the(it appears as a folder in views-thumbnails)

4kjupiter.png as jupiter.jpg.

But all that happened was that the god-like gas behemoth now looks

fuzzier than ever. it was then in a fit of panic that I ran to the forum like a

baby that only wants to be fed by mumma!

I will now endeavour to contact the authour in regard to said file for

clarification of this issue.

best regards

Osmium

p.s. Is this image the one used on the splash screen? & is there a function on this forum to include a 'signature' so I don't have to type out my hardware specs every time I write one of these?

Cheers

Os.

using: Celestia 1.4.1
-MS XP home Ed SP2.
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, 2079MHz

Is that enough?

That was your mistake.
A .jpg image file is not the same format as a .png image file.
You must not change the letters in the filetype -- the part of the name after the dot.

Rename the file back to jupiter.png and then you should be able to see it.

Celestia looks for .png, .jpg and .dds files in that order.

Also, you should consider putting it in the hires folder instead of the medres folder.

Then you can use r and R to select the different resolution surfaces so you can easily compare them.

Jupiter looks fuzzy because right now the only readable image you have is the one in the lores folder. Put jupiter.png in hires and rename oldjupiter.jpg back to jupiter.jpg. All will be happy.

You can set your sig in your profile. You can access your profile from the "profile" icon at the top of this screen.

Once again I must thank you Selden for coming to the rescue.

worked it all out and the new hi-res image just looks fantasic :D

I guess it is all just part of learning the tricks to the celestia trade.

Thanks again
