Celestia Forums

Hey chris, I wanted to know if i could make a little site (just for the time bruckner is gone) where I would put all links to updates (textures, ssc files, models, ect.) that I find on the forum into one big list with the usual title, author, description, ect. I would probably call it like Celestia Sub-Page or something, just wanted to get your permission first, since it is your program.

This is fine with me . . . And there's no need for anyone to ask permission when creating a Celestia related site. The more web resources there are for Celestia, the better . . .

Well thats great. Another site hosted on geocites. That means we can access it 50% of the time.

I don't disaprove its just the facts. The site is probably going to get a bit of traffic even without files there and geocities just loves to shut sites down for an hour at a time in these cases. I am sure if you look around you could find an alternitive. I started a site and it wasn't with geocities and all I was going to post was links as well but I have yet to anything more with it. I was going to link to all my downloads off my iDisk but we know were Apple went with that. I am not paying $50 extorsion money to keep my iDisk going.
Ah never mind. I will now insert foot in mouth. The site I made is on geosucks. No wonder I haven't done anything with it.

your completely right. geocities has been, well, a b***h and i'm glad to say i am switching to web1000.com. it has unlimited bandwidth, a lot more space, and well, i've heard a lot of good things about it. so sorry i sounded rude

I am also considering setting up a site with web1000.com. Wish me luck.

yes i remember. so i create them on my computer and then upload them to the internet. how do i create them? save the current ones from geocities?

Unfortunately, you need to learn to use a Web page editor. There are lots of graphical Web editors available, and everyone has their own favorite. I just use a plain-text editor and minimal html features, which is why my pages look so dull. But for me, it's the information content that matters, not how glitzy the presentation is.

If you just copy the GeoCities pages, the results will include all of GeoCities' advertising scripts. I suspect whatever site you use would not appreciate that at all. Most sites expect you to develop your Web pages offline (i.e. debug them on your own computer) and then upload them to their server. Yahoo/GeoCities has gone to a lot of effort to develop easy-to-use Web page "Wizards" because that way your pages have to include all their advertising.

http://support.officeonweb.net/editor-reviews.htm describes some of the Web page editors available. I'm a little surprised they don't mention the editor built into Netscape, but it isn't all that great, anyhow.

I hope this helps a little.

Even better would be to use a text editor and learn some simple tags. If you pick up a copy of O'Reilly & Associates' Web Design in a Nutshell, that will tell you all you need to know. Even better is the web site http://www.w3.org/Markup/ , but that takes some getting used to.
