Bookmarks should be displayed in descending order

I find that I create a lot of bookmarks (especially when I'm developing an addon and want to save temporary viewpoints. So, I'm always having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list of bookmarks to goto my last saved bookmark.
I think it would be better if bookmarks were inserted at the top of favorites.cel instead of the end. Then they will display in descending order of creation date/time.

What do other's think?

I've found that the Windows bookmarks don't record enough about the viewpoint, so I usually create Cel:// URLs in an HTML document instead.

Interestingly Selden I've experienced some problems with Cels as well:

Eg. the Cels in this post: http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php ... ght=#68944
I had to replace 'spaces' with %20's to get the Cels to display as a link in the forum, and even after that they seem to not remember the SYNC state, but go into 'follow' mode instead.

=======

I've been thinking about the bookmarks and had some other (arguably better) ideas Selden...

1. the ability to sort the bookmark list in either order: http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9027

2. Multiple favorites files:
ie. Ability to create and select custom favorites files.

eg. I could have:
EarthFavorites.cel,
2001shipsFavorites.cel
RungworldFavorites.cel
etc...

Celestia could also use a separate favorites file for each system by default. (Of course, user could choose to activate their own custom one(s) as above, but by default they would get the system one when they select and goto the star)
eg. Sol.cel
Rigel Centaurus A.cel
etc...

Editing a url is fraught with peril :)

I've never had problems using Cel:// URLs that contain spaces in a local HTML document. But I use Internet Explorer to read my local documents and Firefox to read remote Web sites. I don't know if that makes a difference.

My understanding is that Bookmarks on Linux (and Mac) systems actually use Cel:// URLs. At some point I expect the same will happen for Windows.

Maybe it's just a formatting issue with the forum site. (But I'm pretty sure I've seen other peoples Cels post here including spaces, carriage returns, etc

This is what happens when I paste it raw:
cel://SyncOrbit/Rung Section 359/2006-03-29T04:33:12.99686?x=APS1GkUhwY5wG+f//////w&y=AKAg/eOjrTas69L//////w&z=ALhqZOyTdYYiPyo&ow=-0.357803&ox=0.371610&oy=-0.497652&oz=0.697299&select=Rung Section 359&fov=33.879292&ts=1.000000&ltd=0&rf=2563&lm=49152

I've tried enclosing it in URL tags, Code tags etc. Nothing works.
I think I'll just post these on a webpage instead, see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the feedback

Like Selden, I use CelURLs in Windows because bookmarks don't have the information to duplicate a scene. I also hope that CelURL info be incorporated into bookmarks as they are saved? I think this would be a real convenience for new users especially.

I have found a slight problem with celURL's as well (possibly a bug):
When you start up Celestia with a celURL which is in SYNC mode, it starts up in FOLLOW mode.
However, once Celestia is running this link works perfectly.
Perhaps there is some code in Celestia that says: "always start in FOLLOW mode".

jromer,Selden
Like you, I prefer celURL's for sharing viewpoints with others, however I prefer bookmarks for taking quick snapshots of viewpoints I might want to quickly restore when developing addons or just touring Celestia. (and they add up very quickly)
It's much quicker and easier to goto the menu and select ADD BOOKMARK when you're in the middle of things, than to have to switch to an editor to paste a celURL into a webpage, give it a name etc...
Perhaps all that is needed is an ADD celURL menu similar to the Bookmarks one, and instead of a favorites.cel it would create a favoriteURLS.html

I still think the ability to sort the bookmarks would be quite nice, but I know that there are more pressing issues that Chris and the other developers have to work on. I'll just have to edit the favorites.cel (as I currently do) when it becomes too unwieldy.

Have been searching for a way to sort bookmarks.
This is still not an available feature in latest Celestia?

If not, please consider this a feature request. Would be very nice
to be able to add and sort (by name) new bookmarks. I'm using these to keep
track of my nebulae add-ons which are starting to be numerous. Is quite cumbersome
to try and sort these manually.

Thanks, Brain-Dead.

You could try editing the bookmarks file.
It's plain text.

Again, thanks for that advice Selden.
That idea never even occurred to me. (Big surprise there I'll bet.)

EDIT:
After investigation, I am assuming that you mean the "favorites.cel" file. Yes?
Again, thanks for the tip. Had no idea what this file was even for, and had never
even looked at it. Should be fairly easy to keep sorted manually though, so again
my thanks.

Have edited with no problems, but one should probably be very careful editing this file.
Can see how easy it would be to trash Celestia with an incautious keystroke here.
