Brand new - what is cmod?

The models have a "cmod" extension. I assume it's short for Celestia Model, right? But how did it get to be a cmod model? How can I open it in, say, LightWave? Or can I?

Thanks. I hope the answer to this isn't somewhere right in front of my nose...

I suppose you have just downloaded the Win32 /binary/ distribution rather than the full Celestia source code archive? In the latter you would find the sources of a command line program that converts 3ds to cmod along with various options. If you compile that code under Windows (I suppose that's your operating system?) then you can use it yourself. Compilation of command line programs under Windows or any other OS is very easy. If you have e.g. CYGWIN (Linux) for Windows installed, the compiler is included. Also there are various possibilities for free native compilation...

Actually. I'm on OSX. Maybe there's some info on this subject for Mac versions. I'll look into it...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
