Just a question - orbit of the earth

Hi, I'm kinda new to Celestia, but I played it for 10 mins and was hooked. I recently installed a new texture, by changing the data in Solarsys.ssc. It was Dons' realistic earth 8k (downloaded off the motherlode). Anyways, now the earth seems to 'bounce' off its orbit circle. I never noticed this before, but then again I never really looked at the Earth before - I was more interested in other stuff.
Is this perfectly normal, or should I delete my edits?

It's normal - the orbits are drawn by connecting a large number of straight-line segments. This is fine at large distances, but it breaks down when you get in close - and when you are viewing a planet you are close enough for this to be noticeable.

You can edit the file celestia.cfg to increase the number of line segments if you want.

Thanks guys. I noticed that it was happening with other planets too.

Will this change the performance during Celestia at all (I.E, cause slowdowns)

Any time you ask Celestia to show more stuff, the frame rate decreases. Whether or not any particular slowdown is noticable depends on the performance of the system and on what else is being displayed.
