Problem reading DDS files

Well, I think I have my add-on problem solved. I could load Earth's 12 months of the year (which is awesome, BTW), but when I when to download "Green Mars", I don't get anything. My theory is that my computer can't read DDS files for some reason. I just get a grey globe on the "Green Mars" alternate surface. If I choose "Green Mars w/Clouds", I just get clouds, not the terra-formed Mars.

I did get the Space Shuttle downloads to go through though, so it's been a bit of a mixed bag so far.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd suggest making a test with something simpler than a VT.

e.g. a single, relatively small surface texture.

FWIW, you might take a look at

and
http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... rs-dds.zip (2.4MB)

Thanks Seldon for all the help and replies. Much appreciated. :)

Well, that second link you provided works grand. Hmm, I'm not sure what to think. (rgvmars-dds.zip). I inserted all of the files directly into the program as it said. However, it has replaced Mars with "RGBMars", which I gather is what it was meant to do. ;-)

It's a few years old, crashed a few months ago, but I think it's fairly updated, though it's missing stuff right now major like JavaVM, which is a problem, though I don't think relevant to Celestia, perhaps.

Anyway, the graphics card is:
nVidia GeForce

Larry,

Unfortunately, there are many different models of GeForce cards, but I think they all can display dds textures. (I'm not sure if the MX models can.)

A quick way to undo RGBMars is to rename the file rgbmars-dds.ssc so it doesn't have the .ssc filetype: rgbmars-dds.sscNO for example.

I have to guess that the VT files aren't all in the right places. I can only refer you to the documents that describe how VTs work. Links to them are in the documentation page on the Motherlode.
