How do I install add-ons?

hi, I'm new to Celestia and the Celestia community

Ok, I wanted to get the addon stuff thats mentioned in the Celestia Users guide such as the sun swelling to a red giant far in the future, going back to the past and see how earth looked just after it formed, and look at a pulsar inside the Orion nebula, and more.

So, I tried to look at http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/ for some of the stuff mentioned but couldn't find them. Although I would have downloaded some of the planet stuff in there, I looked at the add-on installation instructions on that site, but I didn't understand the instructions about the various files.

I also tried to look for the Orion Nebula in the program itself but couldn't find it even though I thought nebulae were added in there already.

I have Celestia 1.3.2 btw.

The addons you mention are Frank Gregorio's Educational Activities.
They're on the Motherlode at
http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catal ... tional.php
Be warned: they're big.

Also, be careful to follow Frank's instructions that are on that page. You need to install a special version of Celestia for the new educational activities to work properly.

One description of how to install more generic Addons is available at
http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html

Celestia does not come with any Nebula models: they're only available as Addons.

You need the version that's included on Frank's Educational page.

I'm having a similar problem as I'm also new to Celestia. I've tried to add add-ons from the Motherlode and cannot get the Don Edwards "Pale Blue Dot" DDS files to load. How do you load them. I've placed one so far in "medres" file, and so far...nothing.

Also, I'm having trouble with Jestr's 64K file on Earth. I unzipped it and placed the "JestrEarth JPG" file in the Extras section as described and nothing. When I click on "alternate textures" or whatever it is, there is nothing but clouds on the earth, no texture. It's really maddening.

I did, however, get Coruscant to work on the first go-around, hehe. It's really frustrating though, as I'd like to see these. I really like the program so far.
