I have jestr??s Mars m46shaded VT and just downloaded 2 Mars VT.They are OlympusMons_VT.zip and Mars_levels4-7_dds.zip.I unzip them to Celestia\extras\Mars m46shaded VT\textures\hires\m46shaded JPG.Them I run Celestia and the VT didn??t work.So I cut the levels 4-8 of OlympusMons_VT from inside a Mars subfolder(created inside Celestia\extras\Mars m46shaded VT\textures\hires\m46shaded JPG)and paste in the D:\Celestia\extras\Mars m46shaded VT\textures\hires\m46shaded JPG and again it didn??t work.
I can??t understand. It was a simple task to install Earth VTs.Why Mars would be a different case?Who can help me?
I am using the jestr VT texture in Celestia 1.4.0 pre 6.

I just now installed Jestr's JPG Mars VT and Thor's JPG Olympus Mons VT on my system. Here's what they look like. The directions of the shadows don't agree, but otherwise they seem to be working.
Jestr's VT has only levels 0-3. The Olympus Mons addon has only levels 4-8. You have to extract the Olympus Mons level folders individually. The Olympus Mons Zip file has them inside a folder named Mars that is irrelevant.
Note that you cannot mix DDS VT levels with JPG VT levels. That just doesn't work.

As Selden has said:
The
Mars_level4-7_dds.zip can only work with:
 Mars M46 Shaded Surface & Normal Maps 16k DDS VT by jestr.
And the
Mars_level4-7_jpg.zip work with :
16K VT Mars Surface Map by jestr too.
Bye !

I don't know what you mean by "doesn't work" and I can't look at your disk.
You'll have to describe what is happening and where you put the files.

It means when I get closer to Olympus Mons, the VT tiles aren??t there. The Olympus Mons has only levels 0-3,the levels 4-8 are not working.
What I have done is the following:
I selected the tx file correspondent to each level and extract it individually to D:\Celestia\extras\Mars m46shaded VT\textures\hires\m46shaded JPG.Even when I did it with each level, the folder Mars appear. What I didn??t do was to extract the Thumbs.db file.Is it important?
When you said to extract individually, what does this mean?It means that for example level 7 who has 4 files.Do I have to select tx_33_51.jpg,extract it,select another level 7 like tx_33_50 and so on?
I think it??s strange that both levels 4,5 and 6 has only 1 file,level 7 has 4 files and level 8 has 12 files.What do you think?
What about the normal map Mars m46 16k Normal PNG be a .png file?Does it interfere?

No. It contains thumbnail pictures of the images. Windows will recreate it when you open the folder.

It means that you must drag (or otherwise extract) each of the level folders by itself out of the Zip file into the "M64sshaded JPG" folder. The "M64sshaded JPG" folder must contain all of the level folders. There must be no Mars folder.

That was done by the author so the picture of the caldera would fit into the lower resolution pictures.
What about the normal map Mars m46 16k Normal PNG be a .png file?Does it interfere?
Yes, but it will only make the shadows look strange. NormalMaps and BumpMaps should be used to draw shadows on "flat" surface textures. Shaded textures include their own shadows.

I still can't seem to get this to work, guys!
I've manually unzipped all the different levels but it still doesn't make a difference.

Opposite for me. Lake works fine, but not Mons. Maybe they're not compatible?

For strange reasons, none of the VT are working now.I??m using it in a Celestia 1.3.2.
Does these addons ony work in Celestia 1.4.0 pre?

Since there's no way to know what you mean by "don't work", I can only guess that you are not running the copy of Celestia that you think you are running.
VTs must be in the same set of folders with the copy of Celestia that is running. If you've been installing multiple copies of Celestia, then your desktop icon may pointing somewhere unexpected and thus is running a different copy of Celestia.

One more thing:the VT are not compatible with jestr??s Mars Surface Features, maybe because they are meshes. It is one thing or another.
I should stress that in my case, the Olympus Mons and Ice Lake VT are WORKING.I forgot to select the jestr mars m46 texture map.

I'm running the version of Celestia I think I'm running. I have the "Mars Surface Features" installed and I'm using Jestr's Shaded Mars Surface. I can get the ice lake to work but for some reason my Olympus Mons isn't like the image posted earlier in this topic. The very peak of the mountain resembles the image on the left rather than the superior image on the right.
That's my problem in as much detail as I can manage!

littleredman,
Did you look at the pictures (surface textures) in the high numbered level folders to verify that they're all viewable jpeg images? Note that when you combine two different surface VTs of the same planet, you have to put the different image files from the different VTs into the same folders and they all have to be the same filetype.
