Model Making Tutorials?

Post #1by Bluespace » 27.10.2005, 06:54

sorry, i am just a newbie, hope some one will help in the topic
can somebody help on this matter? ( i use trial version of 3dsmax i have still got 25 days remaining)

1) i just drawed a rectangle box,
2) in the material editor, i gave a texture for it (one side of the box) using "oren nayar blin"
3) when rendering i can see that texture fitted with the box
4) now i clicked "export" exported it as a box.3ds
5) i replaced the name for the sattelite.3ds (just to make this model appear somewehere) and put that instead of the original sattelite.3ds
6) and then i put that texture in to the celestia's "medres dir"
7) now when i run celestia and goes to satellite; i can see the rectangle box, but no textures

8 ) was the things i did "correct" ?

Okay another doubt, can we move (fly) an object to certain objects?

example, is it possible to demonstrate a space shuttle docking with ISS, with both the models visible,
in short can we guide a particualar object(model) to where we like?

I am sure there are so many newbies like me , so any amount of help on models(making it, moving it, etc.) would be great :)

I dunno about your first question about the models, but I *think* it's possible to make a script (and xyz files) to move objects around the way you want.

Bluespace,

The most common problems are trying to use a format or size that won't work with Celestia.

Textures must be JPG, PNG or DDS, not BMP or TIFF.
Also, they must be a power of two on a side.
e.g. 256x512, 1024x1024 pixels, etc.

I don't know much about 3dmax but when I used Blender, any texture I assoiated with the model while in Blender did not stick. That is the texture name was still the original mesh I started with ( sphere, cube, etc.). I had to go into emacs and add the texture name that I wanted to use with Celestia (*.dds, *.png, etc.). Maybe 3dmax works the same.
