Currupted Files on Earth Central

Post #1by Don. Edwards » 20.04.2005, 00:11

Hey Everyone,
I have received a few e-mails about some of the files being corrupted on Earth Central. I have been trying to replace the files but I am having major problems. So if everyone can just bare with me on this. I don't know if the problem is at shatters.net or on my side. But I am suspecting that it may be on Shatters.net. My ftp client has a hard time logging in and transfers are constantly getting broken and giving the illusion that the file transfer was completed. This is what is leading to the damaged files. Now there is a real possibility it is on my end, but I can transfer files to other locations without all the difficulty. So until I can get this sorted out the files that are broken are just going to have to stay that way for the time being. The files affected are.

Northern Autumn-Southern Spring - NA-SS_4KDDS.ZIP
New-Northern-Summer-Clouds_8kDDS.zip
Northern-Winter_8kDDS.zip
Northern-Winter_Clouds_8kDDS.zip
Northern-Winter16k-SpecDDS.zip
The Day After Tomorrow - TDAT_16kDDS.zip
Northern Summer-Southern Winter - NS_SW_16kDDS.zip

As soon as I can replace the files I will. It will at this point take a 30 mile drive to the old Computer shop I used to work at for a 2mb upload pipe. At present I just ready for the drive that far.
Another option that have been considering is making the textures available on CD for a small fee. The few would not be for the textures themselves but for the cost and time to make the CDs and the shipping. This is of course a fall back plan and is in no way a given or a done deal at this point.
Also just to let everyone know I am going to launching an Earth Central Professional site in the next few months. This will be a site for the graphics professional that is interested in my textures. The textures will be in 16k and 32k, and 41k and will be available only in uncompressed form. That means the files are very big and will only be available on CDs. I have already had a few customers. The prices I will be charging for the pro content will be undercutting all the big time Earth texture studios on the internet by a great deal. So I will have to see were this goes at this point.
If anyone wants to see what the CDs look like click these links.

Well I think that covers everything for now. Back to work on the HD 28185 Add-on.

Umm.... Is there a section on your site that people with weaker computers (like me) could download smaller png or jpeg files from?

At this point the best I can do are the 4k png files. You can always resize them to 2k if need be. With all the textures I have it starts to get confusing when I start adding 2k versions of everything. Besides the main reason to use my textures is the detail. Not much detail at anything lower than 4k.
Maybe I will make a disclaimer that the textures on my site are for more powerful computers.

Agreed. I tried 4k a few times. Sure, my computer was slow as hell and maybe took a restart, but the wait was worth the view :)
