This problem usually is caused by using a download accelerator or by using right-click "save link as..".

How big is celestia.exe? It should be about 12MB. It's not Celestia itself: it's an installer program. If it's tiny, then you haven't downloaded the installer.

The link that seems to be a link to Celestia's installer actually is a link to a Web page where you select which download site should be used. The error usually is caused by downloading that Web page and then trying to run it. That can't work.

You must left-click on the link and then specify a download server.

Does this help?

Thanks. But i did all the things you said and i do have the 12mb file. I was able to install it and everything but when i go to run it, its starts to go and then i get one of those microsoft error messages saying in needs to close and asking if i want to send an error report. I'm not sure why it is doing this. Thanks for any help.

The most likely cause is that your system has obsolete, buggy graphics drivers. You need to update them.

Please read the "Preliminary User's FAQ." It's a "sticky" posting near the top of the Celestia User's Forum (this one).

I updated and am still having the same problems. I have a new notebook w/ a ATI Radeon 32mb graphics card. I don't know if that is sufficeint graphics memory to run the program or if there may be another problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried disabling Celestia's "advanced" features? See the Preliminary FAQ's Q/A #1, especially answer #c2.

Not having enough RAM in the computer will just make Celestia run much more slowly because it has to page out to disk. You won't have this problem until you've installed many Addons.

Not having enough RAM in the graphics card will cause some objects to look "funny" after you've looked at enough so that they've filled the card. Later objects won't be able to load completely. Again, you'll have to install lots of Addons before this starts happening.
